YMMV / Hollywood Steps Out

Go To

  • Continuity Lock-Out: You'd better be familiar with 1940s American pop culture or this will be incomprehensible to you.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Teenage voice actor Kent Rogers, who performed almost every celebrity impression in the short, joined the Navy shortly after it was released, and was killed in a training flight accident in 1944, aged 20.
  • Shallow Parody: Some Hollywood stars only appear because of either a Pun or a quick, cheap joke about their personality or what character types they're known to play in movies. Henry Fonda, for instance, only appears because his first name is the same as a popular catchphrase in the popular radio series The Aldrich Family.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The short was intended to be contemporary, but nowadays it has become a time capsule for 1940's pop culture. Also, the price of the meal is $50; that would still make for a fancy meal today, but adjusting for inflation it was over $800.
