YMMV / Gwent: The Witcher Card Game

Go To

  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Some do not like how the game differs from its version in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While the core remains the same, there are some fairly large changes to how the game plays. Interestingly, the game originally did play more like Gwent in The Witcher 3 during the open beta, but was significantly overhauled due to difficulties with balance and creating varied card designs within the old rules. Witcher 3 Gwent was just supposed to be a fun mini-game, and its rules were probably a bit too simplistic to make into an interesting full-fledged card game without changing them (in particular, the overwhelming power of the original "Spy" mechanic would make for a pretty busted card game).
    • Many of the games updates can be hit with this, due to the tendency for them to bring wide-sweeping balance changes that can completely rework cards, alter how progression works, and so forth.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Each Gwent card has a 3D-animated premium variant, many of which can look stunning.
