YMMV / Giant Gorg

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The opening theme, BRIGHT EYES, an old-school melody with lyrics that sound as if the singer is trying to encourage Gorg.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: One of the central plot points is that a hostile military power is trying to take over land sacred to a native people who have to rely on guerilla tactics for a fighting chance. Quite impressively for the era, the native people of Old Austral are largely free of negative stereotypes, even in their general designs. This is impressive because lack of understanding that these designs were meant to be mocking caused some elements of blackface themed cartoons to become standard practice for depicting dark skinned characters in anime until the nineties.
  • Moral Event Horizon: For most of the show, Skipper seemed to be unambiguously good. However, after having been revealed to be a mole for the government, he traps Lady Lynx in a room and beats her up badly to force Rod into giving him the information he needs (which Rod finally does after Skipper tears her clothes off). Even if Lady Lynx has shady enough morals to receive retribution, this was clearly going too far.
  • Spoiled by the Format: Gorg doesn't actually appear until halfway through the fourth episode. As a result it's hard to worry too much about the danger the heroes get into before they get to the island and even see the title character for the first time.
