** The UsefulNotes/XboxSeriesXAndS backwards compatibility (and [[UsefulNotes/XboxOne One X]] to a more limited degree) can use FPS Boost to change these games from their rough 30fps frame rates, to smooth 60fps without much issue. ''2'' benefits from a native 4K output, while ''3'' and ''4'' have a choice of 4K 30fps or 1440p 60fps, the latter of which is still sharp enough to not be a major impact to image quality. It's to the point that ''Gears 5'''s update for the Xbox Series machines was so optimized that the Series X can play it in native 4K 60fps rock solid, making it look like a launch title of the next generation.

** Since it happens at the end of a mission, the tragic cutscene in ''Gears 2'' where [[spoiler:Dom has to MercyKill his wife]] ends with a hilariously inappropriate moment of MoodWhiplash if you're playing co-op, in which case a pop-up appears informing you of [[MurderTheHypotenuse your progress towards the 'Friends with Benefits' achievement]].

* IKnewIt: Before ''Gears of War'' 4 was released, many fans jokingly speculated that Baird was the one who created the [=DeeBees=] that the reformed COG uses since they shared the same initials as him. The campaign proved the fans right by revealing that over the 25 year TimeSkip, Baird became a FamedInStory world-renowned industrialist who, being the resident GadgeteerGenius of the COG, is indeed the creator of the [=DeeBees=].

* OnceOriginalNowCommon:
** There were third person shooters beforehand like ''VideoGame/EverythingOrNothing'' that had a primitive cover based system, but the first ''Gears of War'' was the game that help perfect the cover based system we see in modern third and even some first person shooters. Back in 2006, this was a big deal and a massive step forward for third-person shooter design: but for players who get around to playing this years after the fact, they will be baffled at why the first game is considered "revolutionary".
** The original game's "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ojz7Jd_MKY Mad World]]" trailer was widely praised upon release as one of the greatest marketing stunts for a video game ever, something that's a little hard to understand today. At the time, a trailer for a video game that emphasised EmotionalTorque and was presented in a traditionally "artistic" way was something new and interesting, keeping in mind that most trailers until then were mostly just gameplay and cutscene showcases. Today, now that video games are more widely accepted as an art form and trailers have gone ''much'' further in their ability to invent an emotional hook for viewers, the appeal of "Mad World" is a bit lost.
