Fanfiction.net, while being the largest fanfiction archive on the Internet, is often called The Pit for the sheer amount of badfic that visitors must wade through to find the 10% of stories that are worth dying for. This may be due to the fact that Fanfiction.net is the initial online publishing resource for newbie writers, whose writing is often considered amateurish due to their inexperience. For this reason more experienced fic writers often abandon Fanfiction.net as their primary publishing source for personal blogging sites like Livejournal, Dreamwidth, and the developing Archive of Our Own.
