YMMV / fun.

  • Awesome Music: The first four songs on Some Nights: "Some Nights (Intro)", "Some Nights", "We Are Young", and "Carry On".
  • Breakup Breakout: Following fun.'s hiatus, Jack Antanoff began a highly successful production and songwriting career, in addition to his popular solo project Bleachers.
  • Broken Base: Very broken due to the New Sound Album approach on Some Nights alienating many fans of Aim and Ignite.
    • As Fun are a supergroup, there's also resentment from some fans of The Format, Steel Train and Anathallo for the band simply existing. In the case of The Format, its because the supposed "hiatus" the band took in 2008 quickly became a full split once Aim and Ignite appeared. As for Steel Train, the band's split in 2013 may have been aided by Jack Antanoff focusing most of his attention on Fun. Other fans of the three bands are simply happy that musicians whose work they enjoy are finally gaining recognition for their talent.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Nate's voice! He's not compared to Freddie Mercury for nothing!
    • Others may compare him to Roger Hodgson of Supertramp.
  • Narm/Narm Charm:
    • The Auto-Tune solo on "Some Nights". The radio edit thankfully removes it.
    • Likewise the Auto-Tune and Vocoder solos at the ending and during the climax of "Stars," though it's more just Narm when he starts yelling hysterically through a harmonizing effect around five minutes in. However, it becomes more dark and creepy near the end.
    • Ruess has said he now regrets writing a song titled "We Are Young," as it's already starting to look silly when the clearly not young anymore band performs it.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The outro to "Stars", which is also Mood Whiplash as it goes from yelling hysterics to a Creepy Monotone Madness Mantra.
  • Sequel Displacement: Some Nights overshadows Aim and Ignite in terms of popularity by far.
  • Signature Song: "We Are Young" and "Some Nights" are the songs the band is most recognized for, with "Carry On" not far behind.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: "Some Nights" sounds an awful lot like Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia".
  • Tear Jerker: Quite a few.
    • "Be Calm"
    • "Some Nights" in spades. No wonder it was used for the most dramatic moments in the Wreck-It Ralph trailer!
    • "Stars"
"Some nights I rule the world,
With bar lights and pretty girls,
But most nights I stay straight and think about my mom,
Oh God I miss her so much...
    • And later the Madness Mantra of "You were always holding on to stars..."
    • "All Alright"
Well I got the call soon as the day hit night
As soon as the headlights lit up the Westside
I stopped the car and came outside
      Cause I know that tone
      I remember the first time
      We wished upon parallel lines
Waiting for a friend to call
      And say they're still alive
  • The Woobie: The protagonist in most of the songs on Some Nights.
