YMMV / El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera
aka: El Tigre

  • Author's Saving Throw: As the Squick entry will tell you, many were understandably turned off by the romantic relationships between humans and skeletons. When The Book of Life came out, Jorge revealed that Sartana was actually Xibalba and La Muerte's daughter, meaning she is (or was) a goddess and not an undead woman.
  • Base Breaker: Davi/Albino Burrito due to his annoying antics as an obsessive fanboy yet at the same time being a genuinely nice person.
  • Character Alignment: In terms of the Rivera family, one could argue that heroes (like White Pantera and Justice Jaguar) are Lawful Good, the traditional "good guy" alignment, while villains (like Puma Loco and Mighty Cheetar) are Chaotic Evil, committing crimes with abandon but gladly fighting other baddies for the sake of family, while various iterations of El Tigre (such as the original, as well as Manny) are True Neutral, with Manny being only as good or bad, rule-abiding or rebellious as individual episodes required of him. Manny could also be argued as Chaotic Neutral or (if a side is to be chosen) Chaotic Good.
  • Cliché Storm: Definitely meant to be seen as an Affectionate Parody of the superhero genre with a Mexican twist.
  • Ear Worm:
    • The main theme can get stuck in a few heads as well...
    • This troper's had Frida's "Sartana Ballad" constantly playing in her head.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Django of the Dead gained a following after his debut (and only major) appearance. The writers were on the same page, as they were planning on making him a recurring character in season three.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • While Manny and Frida is generally accepted, El Tigre and Black Cuervo was also popular. It was so popular that 'Tigre + Cuervo Forever', a catch phrase for the ET/BC following, became the title of an episode.
    • Frida gets paired with either Dr. Chipotle Jr or Sergio a lot, too.
    • Frida/Django is quite popular, too.
    • Turns out the creators were really going to have fun with this, given Manny was supposed to date Zoe for a while and Frida actually dated Sergio, Diego, AND Django during that time period. However, Manny and Frida ultimately were to become the permanent Official Couple while Zoe and Django eventually become the Beta Couple.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff:
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Manny and Frida are related down the line from Manolo and Joaquin of The Book of Life. The two men were best friends even during and after the Love Triangle, so it's rather sweet to see their distant relatives are also best friends and even go on to become a couple!
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • With both characters being played by Eric Bauza, White Pantera — a superhero — later became Lord Stingray — a supervillain.
    • The Word of God reveal that Manolo's mother Carmen is Justice Jaguar's sister becomes this when you remember that both Justice Jaguar and Carmen's husband Carlos are voiced by Héctor Elizondo.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Stalker with a Crush, The Titanium Titan's obsession with Rodolfo reeks of this. There even was a part of an episode featuring his fake Heel–Face Turn where they appeared to almost share a kiss if Manny hadn't cut in.
    • Jorge more or less confirms that the Titan had a romantic interest in Rodolfo.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Wanna know what makes The Golden Eagle Twins' Karma Houdini all the more infuriating? They were set to fire a laser from their bli- Er, zeppelin to obliterate the Miracle City Community Park, not even caring about killing an old lady with puppies and other innocents in the process, just to build their own motocross park! Many of the evil acts committed by the fake heroes were mostly played for laughs, but this actually goes too far!
  • The Scrappy: Again, The Golden Eagle Twins had garnered ire due to their actions in their debut/title episode, especially given their smug attitude and their Karma Houdini end.
  • Squick: The show seemed to have had a love for playing with different types of romances (even more so had it continued); however, some of them were just straight up weird.
    • The romance between Puma Loco and Sartana of the Dead. It gets worse. A picture and description on the creator's Deviant Art shows that if the series had continued, it would have been revealed that these two somehow had a son together. Want more? He's probably Django's father! In case there was any doubt...
    • For the same main reason as Puma Loco and Sartana, the confirmed future relationship between Zoe and Django can also be seen as this. It should be noted that the above Author's Saving Throw now nullifies this example; still, given that Sartana is very much death-based it could still leave some lingering implications.
    • Another possibly confirmed secret about relationships: Apparently, Sergio and Diego both are so unwilling to let go of their obsession with Frida that they both wind up making artificial replicas of her (Frida-Bot and Guaca-Frida respectively) for wives. Yeah...
    • Also counts as Nightmare Fuel and Fridge Horror. In "Silver Wolf", Frida develops an inflactuation with the titular teen bad boy to the point of completely disregarding Manny. But as it turns out, it was really the Titan once again attempting to lure her away from/finally get rid of Manny (and probably her too) for good. It was all just part of the plan, but the fact that this was a grown man and lunactic using border line romantic tactics on a tweenage girl is still very disturbing.
    • Then there was that time the human El Oso fell in love with/tried to whoo the Bear Princess...who is an actual bear. Bonus points in that Manny and Frida, though had to help because they owed El Oso for saving them earlier, really made no objections to the pair. At least she rejected him at the end.
    • Outside of romances, certain snippets of the gross out/potty humor of this series could easily be seen as this.
  • Ugly Cute: The art style of the series tended to have a lot of characters fall under this.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: For a flash cartoon, at times this show produced some gorgeous effects and backgrounds. In fact, that's one of the reasons why the show was able to garner up seven out of eleven awards.
