- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: With a side order of Mood Whiplash. The first book in the series plays out like a traditional kid's story, with squirrels and magic clay dragons, and would appear to leave no doubt as to who the target audience of the series is. The later books, however, run on Getting Crap Past the Radar (specifically, G-Rated Sex), with violence up the wazoo (including one horrifyingly dark Downer Ending), existential crises, and a great deal of speculation on the nature of the universe, which leads to some very messed-up stuff. However, the spinoff wears its kiddie-colors proudly.
