These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
YMMV: Doug Walker
Complaining about Shows You Don't Watch: Or rather, books you don't read. His only experience with Harry Potter has been the films, and yet whenever he talks about his distaste for them (with the exception of the sixth), it can seem like he's under the impression that they're an exact word-for-word translation of the books, or at least that the books can't possibly be any better.
In Disneycember, when he got to The Black Cauldron, he said that he was upset that they decided to have another princess in a Disney movie, and that it was unnecessary to include one in the film. This would've been a valid opinion if it weren't for the fact that he seems unaware that the film is based upon the first two novels of Llyod Alexander'sChronicles of Prydain pentalogy, where Eilonwy is, indeed, a princess.
Dude, Not Funny!: Following Jew Wario of You Can Play This tragically committing suicide in January 2013, not one, but two videos Doug did in February (Ghost Dad and the Can You Take a Film Too Seriously? Editorial) had suicide jokes (More so in Ghost Dad, which is a walking suicide joke). Fan response was... not pretty, especially on Tumblr.
Fan Dumb: Already popping up with the Avatar reviews. Despite Doug calling himself out on it, POC uncomfortable with his difficulty to remember pretty simple names and places are met with (usually white) others stonewalling them with racist remarks and giving the "Doug is braindead so it's not his fault" excuse.
Actual bets being waged that he'll "cry like a little bitch" at "Tales of Ba Sing Se" doesn't exactly show a great deal of kindness or empathy.
After finding out he was actually born in Italy, some people seem to think overloading him with stereotypical Italian jokes is funny.
While he was getting Super OCD about the glasses in "Holly Jolly Secrets 2" (which Jason lampshaded), him just thinking that Ice King's backstory was so tragic it was funny got him a ridiculous amount of people calling him every word for "stupid" that you could think of. Plus it was slightly hypocritical, as his deepifying "The New Frontier" into a debate about suicide being wrong or not was just ignored, it was going against what fandom thought was sad that got him hate.
Hate Dumb: A while back on his Face Book he made a comment about how a popular parody video of the Dark Knight Rises made almost the exact same points he made in his review of the same movie and yet unlike his review, got no flak for it. Cue many people viciously barking at him, calling him lots of names, and just being mean in general. The kicker? His entire post about the video was actually very positive aside from that one bit and even then he wasn't actually attacking the video.
Hilarious in Hindsight: His first short film was a college project called The Room. As the Critic, he would become (in)famous for his review of The Room (no relation).
Opinion Myopia: An openly clear aversion. Playing himself in his videos, he has noted that he (usually) understands that some people just feel differently about works than he does.
Although Jason has to remind him in "The Limit" that they can have different opinions and it's okay when Doug starts to change his mind on whether Jake's problem was too much niceness (which Doug related to) or too much pride.
Pandering to the Base: Fully admitted in "The Spirit Of Competition", as while the episode does have the tropes he hates, the fist-shaking and yelling are just for the part of fandom that only want to see anger from him.
Squick: The reaction to him still having the "Why Is Tom and Jerry Genius" gunk on his fingers a day later in "Welcome To Republic City".
