YMMV: Dead Fantasy
  • Author Appeal: Rinoa is clearly Monty's favourite character. She gets an awesome re-design, several new and cool powers, she's canonically the most powerful female character of Team FF, and she gets the most artwork over on Monty's deviantART page..
  • Awesome Animation
  • Awesomeness Withdrawal: It has been said that the only remotely bad thing about the series is the wait between episodes, which just keep getting longer and longer as the series gets... uh, awesomer and awesomer.
  • Broken Base: DOA fans vs. FF fans. It gets nasty. Trust us on this. Nevermind that Monty constantly repeats that it never was about who wins or loses, or who was better.
    • Episode 3 was perhaps the biggest sticking point of the divide as it was the first, and so far only, fight to have a definitive conclusion. Tifa losing to Hitomi.
    • Perhaps the most divisive issue is the fact Monty took Artistic License with several characters, by endowing them with powers and abilities they don't possess in their respective canons - with Rinoa, Hitomi, the Kasumi X clones, and Kairi being the worst offenders.
      • Some fans are fine with it and simply chalk it up to Monty either invoking Rule of Cool, or feel he's trying to balance things out by making the presence of those characters feasible.
      • Purists, on the other hand, feel he's simply making those characters more powerful than they should be, to help them fight characters they'd otherwise stand no chance against. While other characters are being misrepresented.
      • Then there's the Fan Dumb who are okay with changes that help the characters they're rooting for, but go out of their way to point out why the opposition shouldn't be able to pull off the things that they do.
  • Game Breaker:
    • Rinoa's godlike power in Episode II. It actually makes sense, as in-game her Angel Wing limit really does amp up her magical power to absurd levels.
    • The Kasumi X clones' teleportation in part 4, which enabled them to make mincemeat of Yuna's Aeon's in virtually no time flat.
    • Kairi's transformation into Namine, who may as well be Nu-13 instead, and all the powers that come with it (see the Super Mode entry on her character sheet).
  • Holy Shit Quotient: Approaching infinity for Part II. After that drops slightly, but only due to the introduction of plot.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Garage Jack vs Ninjas. Twang!
  • The Scrappy: Hayate, due to his actions in part 5, where he sends an entire squad of ninja to take down Tifanote  after she had been weakened by Hitomi. Even then, he wouldn't make a move against her, 'til she was on the brink of exhaustion, having dispatched all but two of his men. During live screenings, the crowd could be heard booing, particularly at the end, where he cheapshots her after she's worn down and bound by his two remaining ninjanote .
  • So Cool It's Awesome: The general opinion of the animation is that it's this.
