YMMV / Crashbox

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The Psycho Math ("Boom" by Jan Cyrka) music has some nice punk/industrial feels to it.
    • The wonderfully jazzy, borderline Danny Elfman-esque music in the intro and transition segments.
    • The groovy jazz music that plays during the Sketch Pad segments. Makes you want to just snap your fingers in rhythm, doesn't it?
    • Let’s not forget the smooth reggae song that plays during the Think Tank segments. "Can you help Captain Bob? He's jamming in his sub!"
  • Can't Un-Hear It: People who discovered the show after 2003 can only think of Grim when they watch the Think Tank segments, since Greg Eagles used his Captain Bob voice there, and that show is much more well-known than Crashbox.
  • Crossover Ship: Dora Smarmy has been shipped with the cardboard cut-out anchorperson from MAD due to them both being just that (although the latter is more well-animated).
  • Game-Breaker: Turning on closed-captioning makes it incredibly easy to pay attention to what Dora Smarmy is saying in Distraction News.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Jumpin' Johnny Jumble and Eddie Bull, namely, get a lot of attention from the show's small fanbase for their especially memorable segments and friendly and energetic personalities.
  • Fountain of Memes: Captain Bones shows up a lot in Youtube Poop and other joke-remix videos.
  • Nausea Fuel: The Revolting Slob.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Now has its own page.
  • Quirky Work: A rare edutainment variant — complete with a wide range of art-styles, uncanny character designs, and Surreal Humor. The show could generously be described as an educational fever dream.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
  • Ron the Death Eater: YouTube Poop loves to portray Captain Bones as an ill-tempered Jerkass doubling as Sir Swearsalot. In the show proper Captain Bones definitely berates the viewers a lot in his segments, but he is a gruff grump at worse.
  • The Scrappy: The Revolting Slob is extremely unpopular for being... well, just that, revolting. He's incredibly ugly, his set is disgusting, and he doesn't have much characterization beyond being a Fat Slob. Even the narrator doesn't like him whenever it’s time to play his game.
    Crashbox voice: Eugh, Revolting Slob!
  • Ships That Pass in the Night: Pretty much any ship is automatically this, since there's no interaction between the segments.
  • Spiritual Successor: To BrainGames: Both were edutainment programs on HBO Family that were composed of a series of segments with different subjects and art styles, with a Mind Screw-y Framing Device.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The Crashbox itself is incredibly detailed and intricate stop-motion and CGI melded into one.
