YMMV / Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The best part of Dracula X Chronicles is that you can set any song in the game, either original or unlockable, to play in any stage or fight you want, with the exception of the fight with Dracula (except in the PAL version). Who doesn't like the idea of using "Bloody Tears" as the boss theme, or using the previously unused remix of "Cross Your Heart" as a stage-theme?
  • Narm: The "holy water rain attack" looks more like a golden shower than anything else.
  • Polished Port: Along with two new bosses and a new final boss phase, a revamped live soundtrack, a completed version of the secret stage, and the ability to swap tracks from either version along with Symphony of the Night in any stage, the game includes the original game with cutscenes dubbed by the cast of the remake for the first time in English. Along with these changes, there's a fully intact port of Symphony that's been redubbed with a slightly revised script and includes Maria both in a new boss fight against Alucard in the clock tower and now playable with her Rondo moveset. Plus, the Faerie's song is sung in English.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Symphony of the Night and the original Rondo of Blood are not available from the start, but must be unlocked by performing specific actions in specific stages of the Rondo remake. You will almost certainly need a guide to find them.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • While remixing the soundtrack for the remake, they took out "Den", the Clock Tower theme unique to Rondo, and inserted "Moon Fight" from Castlevania Chronicles in its place. The original version of "Den" is still available in the PC Engine port included with the collection, along with a remixed version called "Cavern of Dark Spawn", which you can only unlock from Boss Rush Mode, but this decision remains a odd one.
    • This version of the game also fixed a lot of the questionable translation of both Rondo and Symphony and replaced it with more competent and less Narmy dialogue. While the result is a better translation overall, some fans preferred the silly voice acting and memetic script from the original and were upset by how it got "fixed" for the rerelease.
