YMMV / Bobby's World

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Is Ted actually the irresponsible manchild everyone thinks he is, or does his family simply not respect him because he's a bachelor who doesn't have a 9-to-5 job? It's notable that he acts goofy and silly when Bobby's parents are around, but often becomes far more serious and responsible when he's alone with his nephew (trying to get in touch with Bobby's parents during an unexpectedly long road trip, not allowing Bobby to ride a carnival ride that would likely make him sick, and putting aside playing with Bobby the instant a business associate showed up).
    • Because the show didn't give much characterization to other characters there was no real reason to why Derek is such a Jerkass to Bobby. Was it because he was jealous of him due to him being the baby of the family? Or is he a massive jerk who gets a sick kick out of Bobby's suffering?
  • Awesome Music: The opening theme, composed by John Tesh of all people!
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Gail Matthius' Martha voice would later be associated with Sarah Palin (and the Tina Fey impression of her).
  • Nightmare Fuel: Derek explaining a tonsillectomy in "Bobby's Big Boo Boo":
Derek: The doctor doesn't take them out, he CUTS 'EM OUT!
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: The SNES game was cancelled at the eleventh hour, but what is there in the prototype is still rather decent, being a cute and charming little platformer that does justice to the show.
  • The Scrappy:
    • Derek and Kelly, Bobby's older siblings. Although Bobby can be a pest to them, that still doesn't excuse them, especially Derek, who will often go out of his way to bully Bobby For the Evulz.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Derek getting punished by Howard in "Suspects, Lies, and Videotape". Even if it was for something he didn't donote , considering the way Derek treats Bobby most of the time, those who hate Derek find it so satisfying to see him get punished. As proof, it's the most replayed part of Kabillion's upload of the episode on YouTube.
  • Tear Jerker: Abe the Crossing Guard's death at the end of "The Music". Easily the show's saddest moment.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Some of Jackie's attempts to teach Bobby a lesson, the ending of Karate Bobby for example, can come across as cruel. It's all really not her responsibility, she's not an authority figure.
