  • Fridge Brilliance: The song "Hook" comes loaded with it (considering it's a pop song that makes fun of other pop songs, this should be no surprise).
    • During the second verse, the singer references Peter Pan, stating that "no matter how much Peter loved her [Wendy], what made the Pan refuse to grow, is that the hook brings you back". While it fulfills the promise of the previous verse ("To confuse the issue I'll refer, to familiar heroes from long ago."), the line makes perfect sense when you realize that he's referring to Peter Pan's adventures in Neverland, which were usually caused by his arch-nemesis, Captain Hook.
    • During the third verse, the singer goes into a rapid burst of quick lines, one of which is "Make a desperate move or else you'll win". Sounds mixed up, right? Shouldn't it be "make a desperate move or else you'll lose"? But in the context of this last verse (where the singer bemoans the fact that he has to sacrifice his artistic vision in order to remain wealthy and famous) it makes perfect sense: if you keep playing it safe (by making similar songs over and over again) you'll "win" by becoming wealthy and famous, but your work will be soulless and unoriginal. You have to be willing to take a risk and try something new (i.e. "make a desperate move") in order to improve your skills and offer a new kind of art to your audience.
    • The music video even includes some brilliance: the first verse is sung by beauty pageant contestants, the second is sung by politician standing on a stage, and the third is sung by many people on a TV that is rapidly changing channels."Hook" is a song about mindless entertainment (specifically pop music), so it's fitting that the verses are all being sung by the types of people who are known for talking a lot without saying much.
      • To hammer home this point, look at the politician's wild gesticulating as he sings, and you'll see at one point that he points at the screen and laughs. He's not just laughing at his constituents, but at you, the viewer.
