• Anvilicious: The episode opens with a sermon, which sermon is rapidly followed by an argument between Deputy Police Chief Bill Henderson and Reverend Jeremiah Holt. Holt accuses the police of being in the 100's pocket, saying the community can't trust the police, likening them to overseers. Henderson then points out that Holt up in his pulpit is wiping his brow with a $1000 handkerchief and wearing the fanciest of shoes while Henderson himself is scraping black bodies off the streets. One man fails to protect the community the other leeches off of... while a teacher-by-day-vigilante-by-night tries to keep them from coming to blows.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Jefferson humorously threatens Khalil to avoid engaging in sex with Jennifer. Khalil ends up shot, with the bullet hitting his spine, which means he probably won't walk again, his potential as a track star is gone, and it's unlikely he'll be able to have sexual intercourse with Jennifer at all. It compounds further with what he said in the previous episode about trying to use his athletics to escape the city, but now he's unlikely to have the means to do so. Then he gets recruited by Tobias... even worse.
• Narm: It's hard to keep a straight face when Tobias Whale starts complaining about the marchers singing, which sounds like it could have been said by The Grinch.
