YMMV / Bat Boy: The Musical

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Bat Boy has just killed Rick, and is running through the forest. Shelley catches him. Suddenly, the Greek god Pan and a bunch of anthropomorphic animals come in and have an orgy. This is never mentioned again throughout the rest of the film.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Dr. Parker. To wit, he's struggling with his marriage to his wife, Meredith. Angered that she's paying more attention to Bat Boy, he concocts a plan to have her get rid of Bat Boy. His first actions in doing so is to torture a live rabbit in front of Edgar. And if that's not enough, he shut Ruthie up. For good.
  • The Woobie:
    • Edgar had it out against him from the beginning to the end, from getting captured and nearly put down by Dr. Parker, to being hunted by an entire town for supposedly killing their cows...and it gets worse when he finds out about his actual origins and relation to Meredith. Even when he's dying, he sadly notes he's an animal instead of a boy.
    • Meredith is no better. She was in a loving relation with Dr. Parker who would marry her one day, but before that, he raped her, causing her to flee into a cave where the bats went after her as well, causing her to give birth to Bat Boy and Shelley, the former being chased out for being different. Despite her best attempts to get Bat Boy to integrate into society, she ends up failing badly and dying when Dr. Parker stabs her.
    • Shelly, Shelley. She might have had the least amount of trauma for her, but she ends up having to break up with her boyfriend when he abuses Bat Boy, having sympathies for the creature, fail to help Bat Boy settle down in society, try and fail to stand by him and witness the deaths of both of her parents and the guy she was trying to help. By the final number, she's a traumatised, utterly broken lass who barely manages to soldier on to lead the town in reflecting on the lessons learnt from Bat Boy's incident.
