* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Dez. Some love how unbelievably wacky and over-the-top he is, but the problem his detractors have with him is that he has bad comedic timing, and tends to ruin moments. It got worse after his actor got his own segments that play during commercials, making him come off as a CreatorsPet.
** Trish. While admired for her sarcastic one-liners and being a good friend and manager to Ally and Austin, there are people who hate her for her mostly selfish behavior. She also has it out for Dez for no particular good reason. She showed ''excitement'' at the prospect of him having his life threatened by sharks and eagerly tried to feed him to an alligator once. While Dez is a fellow BaseBreakingCharacter, it's too jerkish to be considered a TakeThatScrappy for his haters.

Added DiffLines:

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Piper. She only appears in three episodes, the first one having her get into a relationship with Austin and her last appearance - which is a two-partner - having her break up with him. And unlike Kira, she never appears again after her break up, making her come off as a plot device in Austin and Ally's relationship. At least Gavin had an extra episode with him being with Ally.

Cool Loser TRS cleanup, has been renamed to Unconvincingly Unpopular Character and is a YMMV audience reaction.

* HollywoodHomely: A rare in-universe example: Chuck has been through no less than three girlfriends and has been asked to the prom ''five'' times. What makes him an in-universe example is that characters themselves treat him as a CoolLoser and are surprised that he's such a ladies' man.

YMMV can't be played with.

* AwardSnub: Averted, because of Ross' 4 time wins of Kids Choice Awards Favorite TV Actor from 2013 to 2016. Austin & Ally made a clean sweep in 2015 winning Favorite TV Show, Favorite TV Actor (Ross Lynch) and Favorite TV Actress (Laura Marano). The show's first KCA win was also its first KCA nomination, also during its final season (in the previous few years the Disney Channel shows routinely nominated were ''Series/{{Jessie}}'' and ''Series/GoodLuckCharlie'').

* GirlShowGhetto: Averted by using an equal cast of two guys and two girls, giving both the male and female lead important roles and singing time, making Ally an {{Adorkable}} nerdy girly girl and Austin a cute NiceGuy to attract both male and female viewers with eye candy. You can take the viewpoint that the show is ''slightly'' shifted more towards girls because Ally is just barely more of the lead character than Austin is due to Ally's music store being where the majority of the plot takes place and that it was Ally the audience was introduced to first. However, Austin's name is first in the title and all of the characters are primarily focused on advancing his singing career. They are even referred to a "Team Austin". Not to mention, the show is more a vehicle for Ross Lynch than Laura Marano, and lacks the Double Billing for them.

** Surprisingly subverted in the next season finale. Austin, Trish, and Dez actually end the episode off separating from Ally, but in the first episode of season 3, she and the others reunite, and the tour continues with her on board.
** And subverted ''again'' in the ''next'' season finale. Even if it means being separated from Ally again, there's no way Austin would jeopardize his contract with Jimmy Starr, and thus the entire premise of the show, would he? And yet that's exactly what he does along with Dez following his girlfriend to California. Later on, a misunderstanding forces Dez to come back and Jimmy does realize he was unreasonable to ban Austin from performing and reverses his decision several episodes later.

* ShipToShipCombat: Surprisingly averted considering how easy a StraightMan (i.e. Ally) lead can slip into this in the kid-com genre. The reasons could include that only Austin and Ally sing, ruling out the intra-fandom rivalry that other shows like ''Series/{{Victorious}}'' suffer from. There is also no realistic opponent to the Austin/Ally 'Auslly' {{Shipping}} pairing, which would cause DieForOurShip in the event of a ship that does ''not'' include Ally. Finally with such a small cast of four main characters, there is no room for a typical overshadowing EnsembleDarkhorse to suck all the popularity on the show away from the main two cast members.

Critical Research Failure is a disambiguation page

* CriticalResearchFailure: In "Costumes & Courage", they at least get the most basic fact about Charles Lindbergh right - but then veer right into "so wrong it's ''bizarre'' they even thought they could get away with this" territory by mentioning that he invented the artificial heart. A five-minute trip to Website/ThatOtherWiki would've shown otherwise.

No ship is bigger than them as such the Fan Preferred Pairing does not fit, that require the non canon to be bigger then them not just non canon.

** Since the ''All Star New Year'' special it's become popular to ship Jessie and Austin, despite their in universe age difference of about three to four years. You can thank their beyond catchy music video performance where they (kind of) act flirty at points. (Ross and Debby’s age difference is only two and a half years.) Also Debby Ryan and her character Jessie look fairly young.
** The (more) likely canon ship from that special, Emma and Austin, is pretty popular too. Who wouldn’t want to watch a nice fangirl like Emma get to date their rock star crush.

* HoYay: Austin and Dez. Especially on Dez’s side (he’s always tearing off his pants to give to Austin, and he dressed like him for Halloween.) Creator/LauraMarano is a fan.

** Since the ''All Star New Year'' special it's become popular to ship Jessie and Austin, although this is mainly because of their duet’s together, and despite the fact Jessie has to be about three to four years older than Austin. (Their actors are only two and a half years apart in real life and Debby looks fairly young).
** The canon ship from that special, Emma and Austin, is pretty popular too. Who doesn’t want to see someone get with their rock star crush.
