YMMV / Asterix and the Magic Carpet

Go To

  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: The scene where the carpet is shot at with arrows when flying over Tyre was intended to be a pun on "Tyre" in French being pronounced like "tire" (the word for shooting arrows), but it could also be taken as a Brick Joke from Asterix and the Black Gold, in which Asterix and Obelix run into various tribes (Assyrians, Medes etc.) who invariably greet them with a hail of arrows before apologizing and explaining that they took them for members of another tribe.
  • Audience-Alienating Era: While not considered as horribly flawed as the four stories that would follow, with this story's main fault being its disjointed and derivative feel, most fans agree that it marked the beginning of a downward spiral that the series wouldn't break out of until Albert Uderzo retired.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The characters have arrows shot at them while flying over the city of Tyre, and nobody ever explains why. (It makes more sense in the French version, where "Tyre" is pronounced the same as "tire", meaning "shoot", i.e., shoot arrows.)
