YMMV / Ashens and the Quest for the Game Child

Go To

  • Aluminium Christmas Trees: The Game Child is a real knock-off console, which many people weren't aware of until Ashens reviewed it on his channel post-movie.
  • Awesome Music: The main theme, perfectly delivering the tone of the film and letting the audience know that this isn’t going to be your traditional Internet-based adventure.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment:
    • Chef Excellence: I had a company car in the shape of a baguette; the ladies loved it.
    • When Chef Excellence has been lying on a log, and Ashens points out a luxurious seat with fruit and a fountain, surrounded by a rainbow, right next to it.
    • When the Silver Skull is revealed to be Warwick Davis.
  • First Installment Wins: The Quest for the Game Child was actually decently received (especially among other “Internet Creator” movies of its era, such as To Boldly Flee and the AVGN Movie) for its simple plot, more hits than misses with its dry humour, its surprisingly high production value for a film of its scope, and is remembered fondly among Ashens’ fanbase. The Polybius Heist, though not without its fans, wasn’t quite as warmly received for its radically different tone and style of humour.
  • He Really Can Act: Ashens himself. He actually does pretty well.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Part of the plot revolves around Chef Excellence being fired from his job and replaced. Seems like a perfect opportunity for Max Hoffman to make an appearance. Instead we get Chef Brilliance.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The opening credits sequence, with its hand-drawn art and surprisingly fluid animation with extremely neat Continuity Nods to Ashens’ videos.
