YMMV / Appointment with F.E.A.R.

  • Awesome Art: The cover art is by none other than Brian Bolland, the comic artist behind 2000 AD and The Killing Joke. The inside illustrations by Declan Considine are quite neat, too. The mobile-game version exclusive new art? Definitely YMMV.
  • Sequelitis: This gamebook story had two magazine-exclusive sequels. It's safe to say they don't compare in quality with the original. (One of them was not written by Jackson, but by someone who was allegedly only about 11 or 12 at the time.)
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Some miscellaneous supervillains are mentioned that the Silver Crusader never gets to fight or learn more about. This includes a "Beastmaster" who escaped from prison and an "Ocean Behemoth" that is returning at sea. You can bet at least one reader would flip through the book to find out where they could be fought!
  • Woolseyism: The French translation is a bit infamous for this:
    • Most of the names are changed to very French-sounding ones, which is a bit unsettling for an universe that is meant to be inspired by all-American superhero comic books. The biggest downside is that it removes most of the superhero comic book ShoutOuts. A bit infamously, it inserts a Bestiality Is Depraved subtle reference joke.
    • Some enemies only had descriptive names, and get original names in the translation. The Fountain Creature is called "Chondraque" (which doesn't mean anything, and probably just meant to sound "monstrous") and the Ringmaster is called "Griss" (parody of Real Life French circus Gruss).
