- Heartwarming Moments: Frisk has a nightmare in "In At the Death" (discussed under Nightmare Fuel). She wakes up, understandably distressed, and Asriel sits down next to her and gives her a hug, telling her he'll always be there for her.
- Nightmare Fuel:
- Frisk's nightmare in "In At the Death." Everything, including her, starts melting, and Asriel turns back into Flowey, who turns and laughs at her as her vision is covered by her own melting flesh.
- The way Caleb kills the Patriot supporter in "In At the Death" also counts as this, since his skull has been shattered, there's blood everywhere, and his eye is forced out of his head because the eyesocket's been crushed.
- Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Some critics of Beyond Forgiveness have stated that the characters are not dynamic, the concept is silly, and it's non-canon, so it doesn't matter. However, In At the Death has received nothing but praise for its realism.
- The Woobie: Frisk and Asriel are both plagued by nightmares of the constant resets Frisk underwent to try to save the latter. In the second book, this turns into a Heartwarming Moment when Asriel comforts Frisk after a nightmare.
