* AccidentalInnuendo: The AbsentMindedProfessor Von Schlemmer had a moment of the sort. Robotnik has him tied up, and he asks him what he can do to get Von Schlemmer's invention to work. He replies "I'll never tell you...unless, of course, you [[TooKinkytoTorture fiendishly torture me]]." Er...
* AdaptationDisplacement: While the show hasn't eclipsed the ''Sonic'' games themselves, some fans are much more familiar with Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts here to the point where there are those who believe that they were created exclusively for the show, even though they're actually all based off enemies from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2''.
* {{Anvilicious}}: The "Sonic Says" segments.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The theme song and "Sonic's Song".
* CaptainObviousAesop: One "Sonic Says" segment tells kids not to climb into washing machines.
* CultClassic: The show has a sizable fanbase. Most of its fans grew up with it.
* DesignatedHero: Sonic's attitude and mischievousness is amped a fair degree in this series, sometimes making his role as a hero pretty questionable. Though this is balanced out by his selflessness and BigBrotherInstinct towards Tails.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Robotnik. Many fans actually ''want'' him to beat Sonic. His FountainOfMemes and "the world's sexiest fatman" status certainly helps.
* EarWorm:
** "Sonic the Hedgehog, You can't catch what you can't see. Sonic the Hedgehog, He's going to make Mobius free!" In-universe, even Scratch and Grounder dig it!
** Robotnik's {{Leitmotif}} [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxeSNmd55Yc is also really catchy.]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** [[MsFanservice Breezie]] [[LadyInRed for obvious reasons]].
** The bounty hunters from "Sonic Search and Smash Squad", largely due to their reappearance in ''Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine'', a rather extreme example of the trope since outside the game, most of the characters only appear for all of a couple of seconds in the show itself.
** And, of course, the [[FatBastard good]] [[LargeHam doctor]] himself, [[MemeticBadass Robotnik]], who´s far more popular than the show itself.
* EvilIsSexy: Catella, the co-antagonist of the episode "Zoobotnik."
* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop: The show has a couple of real winners when it comes to its attempt at giving kids helpful advice:
** One segment advises kids against running away from home by having Coconuts try it, and Sonic remind him of all the good things Robotnik does to take care of him, and how no one will be there to do those things if he runs away, to convince him to go back home. The thing is, Coconuts is TheUnfavourite among Robotnik's creations, and spends most of his time taking abuse and doing chores to clean up after the rest of the "family", so basically the message comes down to "Even if your family is abusive, it's better than risking it going alone".
** In another, Sonic and Tails are surrounded by enemies, so Tails suggests calling 911. Sonic shoots down this idea, saying that 911 is for real emergencies. In other words, being attacked by people who wish to kill or seriously harm you is not an emergency. This was corrected in another episode.
* FountainOfMemes: Robotnik and the "Sonic Says" segments.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** "Mass Transit Trouble", an episode about Robotnik attempting to bomb three separate transit stations, feels darker than the other episodes because of similar bombings in real life. It doesn't help that Robotnik and his henchmen are far more competent than usual.
** In "Sonic Breakout", Robotnik imprisons Sketch Lampoon for making fun of him in a satire based on Humpty Dumpty. This is less funny to watch after the Charlie Hebdo attack in 2015.
** "Zoobotnik" when taking into consideration the "Sonic Says" segment about sexual harassment. Catella the intergalactic huntress falls madly in love with Robotnik because of how evil he is. Robotnik doesn't feel the same way, but he's too scared to say anything because Catella won't keep her hands off him and is repeatedly manhandling him. In fact, her treatment of him could be considered, barely mind you, G-rated dry humping.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** One of the four part Chaos Emerald saga episodes, "Hedgehog of the Hound Table", has Sonic going back to medieval times. [[VideoGame/SonicStorybookSeries Guess what the second entry in the storybook series from the modern Sonic games is about...]]
** Around the same time the show started airing, ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehogCD'' introduced a certain pink hedgehog whose main role is [[ChasteHero touching Sonic]] [[TheGlomp in a way that makes him feel uncomfortable]]. Incidentally, Sonic becoming a ChasteHero in the main series contradicts his portrayal in this show.
** The Macbeth level from ''VideoGame/StarFox64'' unintentionally resembles "The Robotnik Express" - especially the ending - as seen [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPk9wtjfsIQ&feature=g-u-u#t=2m37s here.]]
** From "Mobius 5000":
---> '''Sonic:''' [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Sonic's the name, speed's my game.]]
** In the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lty-QW9VV1A unaired pilot]] for this show, Creator/JimCummings voices Robotnik, but the show proper has him voiced by Long John Baldry. He would voice the character [[WesternAnimation/SonicSatAm in a different series]]. Similarly, Grounder's actor, Creator/GaryChalk, went on to voice Robotnik in [[WesternAnimation/SonicUnderground another]] ''Sonic'' show.
** In the episode "Tails in Charge", Sonic saves Tails from being fried by a laser beam, but gets under it himself. [[VideoGame/SonicColors Seventeen years later, Tails returns the favor.]]
** Robotnik remarks in "Full Tilt Tails", "No wonder people say I look just like Santa Claus." In "Sonic Christmas Blast", he ''becomes'' Santa Claus.
** In "Lovesick Sonic", when Tails is thrown underwater, a fish asks if Tails can swim. He tries using his dog paddle and says, "Not very well," before flying out of the waterfall. Then came ''VideoGame/{{Sonic 3|AndKnuckles}}'' where Tails can actually use the dog paddle to swim, but only for a short time, as he will tire himself out if he swims too hard.
** In "Sonic Gets Thrashed", Sonic states, "My name is not Roger!" Creator/RogerCraigSmith would later provide Sonic's voice starting with ''[[VideoGame/SonicRiders Sonic Free Riders]]''.
** Robotnik's henchbots are in stitches over an IncrediblyLamePun in "Mass Transit Trouble".
-->'''Coconuts:''' '''WesternAnimation/SonicBoom''', hah hah, hoo, that's a good one!
** An evil theme park called Robotnikland? [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Sounds]] [[VideoGame/SonicUnleashed familiar...]]
** The way the sloths talk in "Slowwww Going". Fast forward to March 2016 with the Disney's ''Disney/{{Zootopia}}'' featuring sloths talking in a similar manner.
** At one point, Robotnik kidnaps Sketch Lampoon, a comic artist, to make him create stories where he's the hero, and advises Sketch to make him look like a more muscular TopHeavyGuy. ''WesternAnimation/SonicBoom'''s incarnation of Eggman is a TopHeavyGuy that looks less fat than any previous incarnations.
* HoYay:
** Robotnik is forced to "kiss and make up" with rival Dr. Quark in order to keep their BigBadDuumvirate going. Afterwards, Quark spits; Robotnik ''blushes''.
** Scratch and Grounder have a weird {{Twincest}} going on between them.[[note]]They're meant to be twins, though they look ''nothing'' alike.[[/note]]
* LoveItOrHateIt: You'll either think the show is a wonderfully funny wacky and creative ''Sonic'' series, or an incomprehensible pile of nonsense.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Coconuts, so very much. Especially in the Sonic Says segment of "Tails' New Home".
** Scratch and Grounder are only marginally less pitiful than Coconuts, if anything their higher position leads to them suffering ''more'' abuse from both Sonic and Robotnik. Grounder's dopey, puppy eyed disposition doesn't help.
** Robotnik himself comes dangerously close at times, especially in episodes involving his mother.
* MemeticBadass: [[FatBastard Doctor]] [[LargeHam Ivo]] [[FountainOfMemes Robotnik]].
* MemeticMolester:
** {{Inverted|Trope}} with Sonic in [[http://wwrw.youtube.com/watch?v=CcrtkiLEGbE this Sonic Sez]]. Played straight in WebAnimation/YouTubePoop, thanks to {{Detournement}}.
** Robotnik himself has become an example in regards to [=YouTube=] Poop, no doubt made worse by his numerous pervy expressions, constant ass wiggling, and desire for people to touch his "PINGAS".
* MemeticMutation: This show has provided ample material for many a [=YouTube=] Poop:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y20OQJ8rOHs SnooPING AS usual, I see...]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZH3SpBujwk I'll have to give myself a PRRRROMOTION!]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcrtkiLEGbE Kids, there's nothing more cool than being hugged by someone you like. But if someone tries to touch you in a place or in a way that makes you uncomfortable, that's no good!]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZtT39LJx8s Ahh, hapPINESS is always so much more enjoyable when it's based on the misery of millions.]]
** Trying to find new ways to [[ManipulativeEditing get Robotnik to say]] [[InherentlyFunnyWords penis]]. So far, the "classic" PINGAS and PINESS were joined by [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mPhuSRUMn8 PIENDISH, PEINOUS, PINDES, PENGAUSE and PEANDUZ.]]
** [[http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/5200000/Robotnik-diploma-dope-sonic-the-hedgehog-5298047-694-547.jpg Diploma Dope.]]
** "And who are ''you'' supposed to be?"
** There's also the '''''"NO!!"''''' from ''Lovesick Sonic''. From the same segment, there's "Yeeeeess?"
** DOY! SHOU! YOU'RE DOORSTOPS!
** '''[[ChewingTheScenery IIIIIII HAAAAATE THAAAAAAT HEEEEDGEHOOOOOOOG!!]]'''
** I just love sharing a cozy, hot cup of lapsang souchong tea.
* MoralEventHorizon: Although he is cartoonishly goofy, many, if not most of Robotnik's plans involved at best enslavement for life or at worst mass murder of civilians. For example, in "Sonic Gets Thrashed", his entire scheme revolves around killing his own robotic creations and enslaving many Mobian citizens.
* MostAnnoyingSound: "SONIC! HELP!"
* NarmCharm: There's ''so'' much in this show it's not even funny. It's ''hilarious.''
* TheScrappy:
** Sonic could be seen as this as he sadistically tortures Robotnik, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts. Though it can be argued that they deserve it, and Sonic does it, as much for other bullied citizens, as for himself, they are so pathetic, people will feel bad for them regardless.
** When Coconuts decides to run away and possibly be good, Sonic tells him to stay with Robotnik. His scheme in the pilot episode also seemed reliant on Sonic being as obnoxious a customer as possible.
* SugarWiki/NoProblemWithLicensedGames: In order to promote the show, Sega edited the Genesis and Game Gear title ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo'' with ''AOSTH'' cosmetics, relabeling it ''VideoGame/DoctorRobotniksMeanBeanMachine''. Despite these edits, and the odd omission of Sonic himself (instead of a playable character, opponents talk to the screen during cutscenes) the game is rather well received and considered a retro classic. ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehogSpinball'' also included briefer elements of the show (along with WesternAnimation/SonicSatAM) as easter eggs.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Creator/CathyWeseluck has a voice credit in this show under "Additional Voices".
* RootingForTheEmpire: Most fans seem to like the villains (Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder) better than the heroes. So much so, [[SpotlightStealingSquad these same fans will often remark that the show should really be called]] ''[[SpotlightStealingSquad The Adventures of Dr. Robotnik]]''.
* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: The [[MemeticMutation infamous]] "Bad Touch" segment, despite being [[NoHuggingNoKissing corny due to being a kids' program]], addresses an issue that needs to be touched on and very few other shows acknowledge.
* UglyCute:
** Robotnik Jr., Scratch and Grounder.
** Robotnik himself in some episodes ("Lovesick Sonic", "Robotnik Jr."), where the expressive animation makes him look like a big orange teddy bear.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The show had some decent one shot characters. Perhaps most blatantly were Robotnik's earlier bots who, despite being utilised and even given names and personalities in ''Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine'', made only cameos in the pilot and one or two more episodes if very lucky. The show also adapted Princess Sally for a voiceless cameo in the ChristmasSpecial.
* ThisIsYourPremiseOnDrugs: This show is best summed up as ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' meets ''WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow'' with some ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' sprinkles and a heapin' helping of [[MaxAndDaveFleischer Max Fleischer surreality.]]
* WTHCastingAgency: [[Series/FamilyMatters Urkel]] for Sonic. A strange choice, to be sure, but what's even stranger is that it worked quite well, enough to do it on both ''Sonic'' shows that were running concurrently.
* TheWoobie:
** Usually Tails. Sonic also has his moments, such as the episode "Sloooowwww Going". It's even {{Lampshaded}} in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNQSsDXXkR0&feature=youtu.be&t=2m36s this]] [=YouTube=] Poop. For all the RootingForTheEmpire the show garners, it did like to offer hard reminders why ''they'' weren't supposed to lose.
** Coconuts ''could'' be this when you realize he is actually trying to get a promotion instead of being evil.
** Goopster the alien in "So Long Sucker" is quite TheWoobie as well.
