• Values Dissonance: What the authors are trying to say about the countries the book visits. It doesn't really work out because it's clear they have no idea what Islam, Guatemala native culture, and a few other places are all about.
• Values Resonance: The subplot about the militant Islamist group in Syria planning to take over the Middle East and attack the United States is a lot more unsettling after The War on Terror began than in the mid-80s.
