• Nightmare Fuel: While the Puppeteer is a creepy being, the real nightmare fuel is Octavia's parents, who give off such lack of empathy for her, abusing her back to right in a mental and later on, physical sense. They are the real monsters of the fan fiction..
  • Their deaths, while satisfying, are also terrifying.
• Tear Jerker: Everything Octavia endures from her parents. Just...everything...
  • Octavia recalling how she wanted to tell her mother and father she had her cutie mark, so they could finally love her only to hear them still bitch about how she still isn't good enough and is still a "worthless mudpony".
  • Any time Octavia wants to give up, it's saddening..
  • The ending...just the ending...
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Lyra. There's much development involving her and Octavia that many fan fic readers think the story should have been a focus on Lyra and Octavia (or OctStrings) instead of the usual Octavia and Vinyl shtick.
• The Woobie: Octavia. She suffered so much despite having done no wrong, so much that you just want to rush in, kill her parents yourself, and cut off the damned strings so she can live a happy life.
