* Sooni from ''Literature/TalesOfMU'' lives in a DungeonPunk world that draws heavily on ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' in particular, yet seems to consider herself an {{Anime}} heroine. Among other things, she strongly believes that DefeatMeansFriendship.
* Zeke Strahm from ''Blog/SeekingTruth'' is a {{badass}} CowboyCop, who steadfastly refuses to believe he is in the midst of a CosmicHorrorStory. [[spoiler:[[AnyoneCanDie Then everyone he knows and loves dies (some of them by accident)]] [[HeroicBSOD and his life falls apart completely.]]]]
* WebSite/{{Cracked}}'s ''[[http://www.cracked.com/blog/new-york-a-soft-look-at-hard-lives/ Infiltrating a Gang Based on My Knowledge of West Side Story]]''.
* The Dove, a SerialKillerKiller from the ''GlobalGuardiansPBEMUniverse'', incorrectly believed he was the hero in a revenge-driven crime thriller. It honestly never occurred to him that he was the villain of a superheroic version of the standard PoliceProcedural. The revelation of his actual status in the story caused him to commit suicide.
* In "Roleplay/WeAreOurAvatars", Asagi Asagiri views the world as a massive video game...when it's really a massive forum game, which upgrades into GenreSavvy whenever any mechanics from video games worm their way into the situation.
* ''SuburbanKnights'':
** [[TheSpoonyExperiment The Spoony One]] tries to apply {{LARP}}ing rules in the first encounter [[QuirkyMinibossSquad The Cloaks]] (Specifically throwing bird seed at them, saying "Two magic!" and expecting them to give up). He eventually realizes that [[AndYouThoughtItWasAGame they're not playing by the rules.]]
-->'''Spoony:''' Suddenly I've decided that I'm terribly afraid of you.
** Just in case he tries the same thing on the BigBad, who throws down his staff in exasperation when he does it, making it look for a second as though that somehow actually worked.
* Don Sebastiano, from the Literature/WhateleyUniverse, thinks that he's in a standard SkyHigh-esque superhero story, he's the BigBad and that he and Hekate can do anything they want. Problem is, they're actually in an X-Men-esque superhero story. He's more the DiscOneFinalBoss, Hekate is his [[TheDragon dragon]], and he's underestimated the value of politics- without them, he'd be dead or maimed, because he's playing in the same league as a bunch of people who could kill him without any effort and have already gone up against bigger enemies. (Seriously, the Don or Hekate- or both of them- versus Tennyo? No contest.)
** Fellow Whateley student Josie Gilman is WrongGenreSavvy played for laughs. She really does think she's in an X-men (or at least New Mutants) story when she's actually the ButtMonkey in a Lovecraftian CosmicHorror story. In her case being wrong genre savvy is probably the only thing keeping her sane.
* [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qj8PhxSnhg This Swedish Chef]] YouTube video has two Wrong Genre Savvy talking pumpkins. They try to use BriarPatching, advising the Chef to use increasingly bizarre/dangerous implements to smash them, on the assumption that he won't have them. However, this is the Swedish Chef we're talking about, who can always pull a sizable arsenal out of {{hammerspace}}.
* ''WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall'': Linkara in his ''Comic Book Quickies'' assumes that reading a text box that says the location of a story is the world's largest flea market, that the giant flea in the panel is the world's largest flea and assumes that the comic's creator doesn't know what a flea market is. The real answer he found was much more, surreal. The flea is the [[WhatDoYouMeanItWasntMadeOnDrugs the giant flea market]] [[ItMakesAsMuchSenseInContext eating flea]]. [[FlatWhat He reacts]] pretty the much the same way as the audience.
* In ''WebVideo/TenLittleRoosters'', the titular ten Creator/RoosterTeeth creators are in the midst of a MurderMystery, but Chris, decked out in his Hobbit-like outfit, has his mind set on ''Franchise/LordOfTheRings'' and other fantasy settings. This goes to the point where Burnie gives Chris a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech because he just wouldn't stop and say who the killer was. Even worse, when the killer ''does'' shows up to confront the two, [[spoiler:Chris decides that ''now'' is the perfect time to pull off a HeroicSacrifice. Three times. And each time, he blocks Burnie's shot of the killer! By the third time he hops up, Burnie's just had it and when he croaks, he just says "Yup, I'm done here" and leaves him.]]
** It later hits Adam. In episode 2, he teams up with Gavin, only to find out Gavin's clone (long story) is in trouble. [[spoiler:Gavin and the clone die horribly by mousetraps.]] When Barbara confronts Adam and suggests they team up, Adam refuses because of what happened. [[spoiler:The killer is later able to ambush him and strangle him to death.]]
** Miles believes that he can be the hero of the story by dressing up as [[WebAnimation/{{RWBY}} Ruby Rose]] and trying to think like her. Even more he believes that [[IKnowMortalKombat beating Skyrim eight times and getting all of the Chaos Emeralds]] makes him even more suitable for surviving. [[spoiler:It doesn't. At all. The one time he tries to take action, fighting a puma, he freaks, drops his weapon and runs.]]
