World Building / Yonami The Great Emperor Of The Southern Seas

In the middle of the Starborn Age, during The 40 Years Of Peace, a new race appeared in a distant cosmos.

These peoples had many names and labels, but the one most familiar is the label of 'Human'. Human society did not fully develop at first. In fact, for years they lived in warring tribes, factions and townships. Then one day, in the Joir (Joe-ARRE) tribe, a pair of twins were born - a boy followed by a girl. His name was Jorvik, her name was Yonami. While Yonami grew up to be a great and powerful ruler, this was not evident in her younger years. While legend states that she was a brawler who could wrestle a bear into submission, other tales told of her waifish body, pale as moonlight. In fact, many thought that Jorvik would become ruler, while Yonami would no more than another fisherwife.

Then, one night, she received a dream. The details are not certain, but it is assumed that her dream for told an invasion of her home by a close tribe. Almost immediately, she told her dream to her brother who dismissed her vision. About a month later, the neighboring tribe of Ivarin invaded the Joir people. It was said that Yonami fought 80 Ivarins with no more than a spear, but even then she could not save her people as she watched her brother die of a axe throught his head.

Escaping into the distant tundras with only the clothes on her back, a knife, and a backpack full of rocks. No one knew what the point of the rocks were, but she kept them with her for her life. Some say that those rocks were the same rocks that were used as funeral decorations for her parents.

It was at this point that she saw the Northern Lights bring life to the barren land, pointing her southwards to a new realm. Many have speculated that these lights represented a First Contact of sorts, but barring any further proof I cannot say.

And thus it was that Yonami went south, away from the smothering ruins of her old village, and embarked on a naval journey through the Straits of Broken Men and the Channel of Tribulation [[note: Speculation remains as to which locations these places correspond to in reality]] until she reached the lands of Kartuba[[note:Speculated to be Cordoba]].

With her strength, it was said that she led a rebellion to seize Kartuba from its corrupt rulers. With her justice, it was said that Kartuba went from a city-state to a Kingdom, to an empire. With her wisdom, the Kartubans became a naval power, with her as the First Admiral-Queen of the Southern Seas.

Not enough details speak of how she conquered these lands, but her rule has been established to have began from the 7th century, with coinage bearing her star-embossed face traced back to the years 640 to 668.
