Go To

Tweety's Circus is a 1955 Looney Tunes cartoon featuring Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird.

Sylvester visits a closed-to-business circus, and when he sees Tweety Bird, he unsurprisingly tries to catch him. But he ends up being chased by an angry lion, being pounded by an elephant, falling into an empty barrel of water, swallowing fire, and locking himself in a cage of 50 lions.

Tropes:

  • Black Comedy: The ending has Sylvester in a cage with 50 lionsnote . Tweety then acts as barker announcing "fifty wions and one puddy tat!" Then the lions roar from offscreen and Tweety ammends his spiel to just "fifty wions!" Presumably, the lions ate Sylvester.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Sylvester hassles the lion ("King of the Cats? Well, you're not my king!") and even hits him in the head. ("You want to be king? Then I'll crown you!") Naturally, the lion gets out of his cage and goes after Sylvester.
  • Death Glare: The elephant over Sylvester injuring his trunk while trying to get Tweety.
  • Empty Swimming Pool Dive: Sylvester has just fallen from the high dive and is falling into a tank of water. Then Tweety leads the elephant to the tank for a drink. The elephant drinks the tank dry, and Sylvester crashes into the empty tank.
  • The Hunter Becomes the Hunted: Once Tweety opens the cage door, Sylvester spends just as much time trying to avoid being eaten by the lion as he does trying to eat Tweety.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile:
    • Trying to hide disguised as a circus attraction, Sylvester does this when the lion starts eyeing him closely.
    • Sylvester when he sees the lion about to send him falling off the trapeze.
  • Punch! Punch! Punch! Uh Oh...: Sylvester tries to fend off the lion by hitting it with the mallet several times. When it has absolutely no effect, Sylvester looks at us in panic.
  • Swallow the Key: Sylvester does this after locking himself in a cage away from the lion. He realizes too late that he's now trapped in a cage full of lions.
  • Tempting Fate: After locking the cage door behind himself, Sylvester remarks that's the end of his lion troubles. As he starts walking, we see he's in a cage full of lions that are all eyeing him.
