** She gets her powers after being kissed by a magic butterfly, the girly version of [[Franchise/SpiderMan being bitten by a spider]]. Makalya and Madison [[LampshadeHanging actually ask her if she was bitten by a radioactive bug.]] Kara experiences senses sickness right after like in the ''Film/SpiderMan1'' movie, then does the typical [[HowDoIShotWeb "shoot web"]] gesture when she tries to verify if she has secondary powers.
** [[Franchise/WonderWoman Super Sparkle is a princess and wears bracelets, although in her case, they're just decorative.]]
** The energy blasts Kara fires out of her hands are similar to Comicbook/MsMarvel.
** Dark Sparkle first comes out as an EvilCounterpart [[spoiler:at first]], complete with an identical but darker costume, à la [[Franchise/TheFlash Professor Zoom]].
** Wes Rivers (Ken's role) share characteristics with [[CompositeCharacter four characters]] and comes out as a [[GenderFlip male]] ComicBook/LoisLane or Iris West, a [[Franchise/{{Superman}} Clark Kent]] without powers and a pre-transformation [[Franchise/SpiderMan Peter Parker.]] He's a [[IntrepidReporter journalist like all four]] (although he has a blog, rather than working for the printed media), wear glasses like the last two, and apparently is a good photographer like Peter (though with his cellphone). Like Lois he's initially fascinated by the superheroic side of the main character and is often the first on the locations of her exploits.
** Kara's two ladies in waiting transform her room into a secret lair, and like Alfred in Franchise/{{Batman}} are her first SecretKeeper.

** Like ComicBook/{{Supergirl}}, Kara is a blond girl, a FlyingBrick, and even shares her [[MeaningfulName name]] with Supergirl. She lacks the [[EyeBeams laser-beam eyes]] and arctic breath though, except in the [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5BsRl9zFaeSURmcF8Ks5zpL2zmW9FgJx Be Super]] series of shorts where Super Sparkle [[SameCharacterButDifferent is actually Barbie, herself]]. Her powers are all identical to a Kryptonian, there.

* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: This movie tends to have a more comical tone than its predecessors, thus Kara is one of the clumsiest Barbie characters along with [[WesternAnimation/BarbiePrincessCharmSchool Blair]]. She notably tends to hit her head on the same tree regularly, much to her dismay.

* ChekhovsVolcano: During her test flight, Kara flies into a dormant volcano. Guess what von Ravendale decides to set off during the climax? For bonus points, [[TemptingFate it's literally called Mount Dormant.]]

* GreenEyedMonster: Kara's cousin Corinne (whose from is jealous of her abilities and becomes Dark Sparkle to show her up. She was already jealous of her even before she gained powers, annoyed at her complaining that being a princess is not enough, which adds to her jealousy of Kara always wanting more. She also ''literally'' has green eyes to top it off.
