Webcomic / Ganny The Daddy

Go To

Ganny the Daddy is a What If? The Legend of Zelda fancomic made by Neo Yi.

In a future time, the current incarnation of Ganondorf successfully killed the Link he was pitted against...and ruled Hyrule as a good king. Decades passed without incident, and it seemed the cycle had been broken. But then his daughter, the princess, is named Zelda. And she later befriends a girl named Link, and Demise is returning to power. The three of these incarnations find their own stories and struggles intertwining; Link is fearful of living up to the legacy expected of her and doesn't fully understand just what the goddesses need her to do; Zelda is trying to be a princess capable of leading her people and tries to uncover just what is going on in Hyrule; and Ganandorf tries not to listen to that nasty voice telling him to murder his daughter and her friend.

Unfortunately, it is now a Dead Fic, though the author has said she plans on making a journal post talking about how the comic would have gone/ended.

It can be read here.

This comic provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: Link, natch. Zelda gets some too, but off-screen.
  • Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene: After an intense afternoon of fighting an extension of Demise, rescuing Zelda, and getting a vision of one of the past Links, Link sits on the roof to contemplate her next move and watch the sunset. Zelda joins her a moment later for a heart-to-heart.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: When Zelda first goes to school, none of the other kids (save for Link) want anything to do with her. As we see after a time-skip, this apparently never changes.
  • All There in the Manual: The artist's comments, both in the descriptions and answering reader comments, provide some more insight on the world; like what exactly kind of technology there is, the names/backstories of Link's parents, etc.
  • Alternate Universe: Ganondorf is a good guy, Zelda is his daughter, and Link is a girl. And that's just the beginning.
  • Anachronism Stew: Radios, blimps, old-fashioned telephones, and even a DJ booth are all alongside oil lamps, torches, and swords. However, they're blended together quite well, and the fact that the time period is set further in the future than the canon games helps with that.
  • Author Appeal: Top hats and steampunk-ish technology.
  • Demonic Possession: Zelda's friend Komali is subjected to this, courtesy of Demise. Even after he's freed initially, he has nightmares about it for years, and it turns out Demise still won't leave him alone...not until he dies, anyway.
  • Dismantled MacGuffin: The Master Sword becomes this.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Ganondorf seems to dream about this, as a nightmare of his features Link attacking him with the Master Sword.
  • Gender Flip: Part of the premise is that this time, The Hero has been reborn as a girl.
  • Good Hurts Evil: While he himself isn't evil, Ganondorf cannot touch the Master Sword without burning his hands.
  • Hearing Voices: Ganondorf suffered this from the day his daughter was born.
  • Hero Killer: Ganondorf. Hey, in the comic's backstory he did kill one of the Links.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Link shows shades of this after learning of her destiny, and that she's The Hero. She doesn't know what it is she's supposed to be doing, if she can handle it, she's scared, and oh yes, she's only eleven when she learns of this.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Link swears Linebeck is this. Her mother is not convinced.
  • Love Triangle: Subverted. Ganondorf does find 21-year-old Link attractive, Linebeck has an obvious thing for her, Link is clueless to both...but Word of God promised that no, there would not actually be a Love Triangle plot. Partly because Ganondorf still remembers Link as his daughter's best friend.
  • Mama Bear: Link's mother has no problem telling a pirate to keep away from her daughter.
  • Mood Whiplash: Sometimes you can expect to see a dramatic or heartfelt moment followed by comedy immediately after; one example being 21-year-old Link tearfully reuniting with her family, only for Ganondorf to grin and ask how her quest went two panels later.
    Zelda: "Dad!"
  • Papa Wolf: Ganondorf. Do not kidnap his daughter if you know what's good for you. You probably shouldn't be a friend who's a boy, either.
  • Sadistic Choice: Demise offers one to Ganondorf: kill the 16-year-old he's possessing so the boy can't spread the truth about Ganondorf's origin, or spare him and risk losing everything he fought for. He ends up taking the first option.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: One of the artist's sketch pages suggests this would happen; it's backed up by the last page of the comic mentioning a celebratory ball for Link's return, with Zelda insisting she wear a dress.
  • She Is All Grown Up: Ganondorf has this reaction to seeing the 21-year-old Link kick ass.
  • Shout-Out: Several to other Nintendo games. Perhaps one of the best is Zelda's pet, a Chain Chomp named Bowwow.
  • Sky Pirates: A group of them shows up so post!time-skip Link can show off her stuff. Linebeck doesn't like the idea of them in on principle.
Linebeck: "They are the tackiest, stealing our shtick with their... sky... ness. Seriously, more like 'sky-fakers,' am I right, Link?"
  • Tears of Remorse: Ganondorf can be seen shedding these just before killing Komali.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: While Gaondorf isn't certainly isn't ugly in this comic, his daughter doesn't share any of his Gerudo features.
  • Visions of Another Self: Link receives visions of the past Links - one appears after she uses the Master Sword the first time, she mentions meeting two more after getting two of the Plot Coupon.
