Web Video: Troy Has A Camera

L to R - Troy, Tim, and Josephnote

TroyHasACamera (also referred to by its abbreviation THAC, later said to stand for TheyHaveACamera) is a limited liability company mainly supported and popularized by its Youtube channel. Also, the three guys that started it (Joseph DeLage III, Tim Sutton, and the titular Troy Wagner; in late 2014, Noah Scammonnote  was officially added to the lineup) all created the popular web series Marble Hornets, in which they starred as Alex, Tim, and Jay, respectively.

No, seriously. Yeah, there is an initial shock that comes with watching their videos after watching MH, knowing that these guys created such a scary series.

Troy, Tim, and Joseph all have Twitter accounts, as does THAC itself. The company also has a Facebook and a website. It's also worth noting that Troy does some dabbling on Vine as well.

TroyHasACamera exhibits the following tropes:

  • Adorkable: All three of them, but Tim really seems to take the cake.
  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: In "Joseph Starts A Band", Tim and Jay simultaneously come up with Levitating Dog Torso.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: "Nature Break: Rocks" states that rocks actually speak their own language, but one must listen very closely and even then they can only juuuuuuuust hear it. It shows a rock with a mouth superimposed on it repeatedly saying "puh-puh-puh-puh".
  • Autotune: Used to glorious effect in the endings of "Troy Moves Out" and "Joseph Starts A Band".
  • Badass Beard: The big broad bearded men (all played by Noah) in "Noah Opens a Box".
  • Badass Mustache: Craig Digsby, as well as Joseph in his jazzy fantasy in "Joseph Listens to Jazz".
  • Big "NO!": Joseph lets out one after Troy reaches three in "Troy Moves Out".
  • Black Comedy:
    • The ending of "Joseph Listens to Jazz", where Tim suddenly shoots Joseph in the fantasy, watches him as he starts succumbing to the agony, and walks away as Joseph collapses on the ground. And then it cuts back to real life, where Joseph lays dead with his head in a puddle of blood.
    • The rather abruptly graphic ending of "Troy Shaves His Face". Just as Troy brings the razor down, it cuts to a ton of blood being spilled into a sink.
    • "Troy Takes A Trip", in which Joseph kills Troy and carries his body out into a car trunk with Tim. While laughing.
  • Breakout Character: Timman.
    • Of the three guys, Tim is easily the most favored by the fandom.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Craig Digsby lives in a universe all his own.
  • The Cutie: Tim, which is mainly why the fandom adores him so much.
  • Dies Wide Open: Joseph in "Joseph Listens to Jazz" and Troy in "Troy Takes A Trip".
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Except not. The videos have what seem like simple names that describe the video's contents ("Joseph Touches A Grapefruit", "Tim Opens A Present", etc.), but due to the Surreal Humor nature of the show, they always manage to find some strange twist on it.
  • Exact Words: "Troy Takes A Trip". I mean, Troy does take a trip. He gets killed and takes a trip to the car trunk.
  • Fan Disservice:
    • Tim wearing an overly small Christmas sweater in "Tim Opens Another Present", allowing us to see his hairy belly.
    • For one shot in "Joseph Starts A Band", we see Joseph playing trumpet with his belly exposed.
  • Foreshadowing: A majority of the THAC comment section is people making connections between the videos and events in the MH entries.
    • In "Joseph Listens to Jazz", Tim suddenly shoots Joseph out of nowhere. In Entry #86, Tim is the one to kill Alex and end his villainous reign.
    • The blood-filled sink in "Troy Shaves His Face" has been speculated to have some connection with the blood-filled sink in Entry #16.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The very end of "Noah Opens A Box". When Noah coughs up a packing peanut, see what's on Troy's computer screen right when it cuts to Troy, Joseph, and Tim's reactions.
  • Freudian Trio: Troy is The Kirk, Joseph is The Spock, and Tim is The McCoy.
  • Fun with Subtitles: "Let's Check Our Voicemail".
  • Gainax Ending: Every. Single. Video.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: "Nature Break: Leaves" states that you'll receive a prize if you collect every single leaf shed by the trees come wintertime.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Morningstar Sinclair gives off this vibe.
  • Large Ham: Troy throughout "Troy Shaves His Face". It starts with his Dynamic Entry and just gets more hilarious from that point.
    • Joseph in "Joseph Plays A Trumpet" is no slouch, either.
  • Laughing Mad: Joseph and Tim's extremely dissonant laughter while they carry Troy's body out of the house and into a car trunk in "Troy Takes A Trip" already has vibes of this, but all subtlety is lost once they start laughing maniacally inside the car.
  • Serious Character, Silly Actor: Some will be shocked to watch the THAC videos after watching some if not all of the MH entries, considering how surreal and wacky everything is. It sort of adds to the channel's charm in the same sense.
  • Mood Dissonance: In "Troy Takes A Trip", Joseph and Tim share some hearty laughter while they carry Troy's corpse out of the house.
  • Mood Whiplash: The end of "Troy Takes A Trip". Joseph and Tim have just killed Troy and dumped his body in the trunk of their car, and they start laughing maniacally at the camera, but it then cuts to Joseph breaking down in tears.
  • Nonindicative Name: Joseph doesn't actually start a band in "Joseph Starts A Band". Tim and Jay are the ones that start it, and Joseph suddenly appears to claim that he's serving as an impromptu addition.
  • No, You: "Grapefruits are BULLSHIT!" "YOU'RE BULLSHIT!"
  • Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: The endings of "Joseph Listens to Jazz" and "Troy Shaves His Face".
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Joseph spends the majority of his camera time in "Troy Moves Out" throwing a childlike tantrum that consists of this trope.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Timman wears a pink helmet, pink fingerless gloves, pink elbow pads, and pink knee guards, not to mention the lines of pink on his shorts and roller blades.
  • Running Gag: "If you know/would like to know X, please email us at podcast@thac.tv" as a response to random topics coming up on the posdcast.
  • Shameless Self-Promotion: The THAC Update is oh so shameless.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: Jazz music isn't the best BGM for a scene where Joseph is bloodily shot.
  • Stylistic Suck:
    • Their April Fool's Day 2015 joke episode of Nature Break, starring a picture of Craig Digsby shoddily cut out from another. Instead of a normal voice, he speaks through a text-to-speech processor.
    • The THAC Update has to be seen to be believed.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: "Joseph Listens to Jazz" has Tim suddenly shooting Joseph in the middle of his jazz fantasy, bringing it to a sudden end as Joseph collapses and not only dies in the fantasy but also in real life.
  • Surreal Humor: Saying that is a slight understatement.
  • Weird Currency: According to Craig Digsby, dirt is the official currency of over 30 countries...including America.
  • Widget Series
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Once Joseph gets shot and killed by Tim in "Joseph Listens To Jazz", he also apparently dies in real life.
