''Yesterday, I asked you, "Can you [[DescribeTopicHere describe Jacksfilms here]]?" Here are your best answers.''

Jack Douglass is an American filmmaker, comedian, and musician, who runs the Website/YouTube channel '''Jacksfilms''', which has become the home of several of his series.

His best-known series used to be a weekly {{Long Runner|s}} called ''Your Grammar Sucks'', where he reads aloud grammatically-painful and typo-laden comments left on Website/YouTube and Website/{{Facebook}}. Amongst regular episodes, the series contained specials ranging from songs made entirely out of badly-written comments or skits. The first "season" of YGS ended on November 20th 2015 with its hundredth episode, a huge hour-long special. Jack has confirmed that Season 2 will not contain any specials.

He then started a series called ''Jackask'' wherein his fans asks him all sorts of questions. It also featured him asking his fans questions, which eventually became its own series ''Yesterday I Asked You'', or ''YIAY''. It started on his second channel, but he brought it over to his main channel and has become wildly successful ever since. From ''Your Grammar Sucks'', to ''Jackask'', to ''YIAY'', AudienceParticipation fuels these kinds of series.

His series and upload schedules are as follows (do note that [[ScheduleSlip Jack doesn't always follow these schedules]]):
* ''[[FunWithAcronyms PMS]]'' ('''P'''arodies, '''M'''usic Videos, '''S'''ketches), which is ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin. Premieres every Monday.
* ''YGS'' ('''Y'''our '''G'''rammar '''S'''ucks), a [[LongRunners long-running]] series poking fun at grammatically-painful and typo-laden Internet comments, and his second most well-known series to-date. Usually it premieres [[{{Tagline}} every damn Friday]].
* ''[=JackAsk=]'', a sarcastic Q&A show. Premieres every Wednesday.[[note]]No longer a weekly series; premieres some Wednesdays.[[/note]]
* ''WebVideo/{{GamerGod88}}'', an occasional series of fake LetsPlay videos and streams. [=GamerGod88=] has his own Twitch account at twitch.tv/gamergodlive[[note]]"Because some jackal took 'gamergod88'. If there is a hell, I hope he burns in it."[[/note]], and he has been uploading streams of games like ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2''. Jack has since admitted that he may stop the Twitch streams since he doesn't feel like it's for him.
* ''YIAY'' ('''Y'''esterday '''I''' '''A'''sked '''Y'''ou), previously a daily show, now broadcasted on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where Jack reads aloud fan-submitted answers to questions he poses to them. Is unique since it's his only series to start on his second channel and continue on his main channel (it made the transition after 13 episodes). It is also his most well-known series to date.

His main YouTube channel can be found [[http://www.youtube.com/user/jacksfilms here]], along with his [[http://www.youtube.com/user/jackisanerd second channel]], and two old, unused [[http://www.youtube.com/user/shutupdennis behind-the-scenes]] [[http://www.youtube.com/user/featuredfridays channels]].

His (parodic) channel trailer can be watched [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKs5k9KB63g here]], and a slightly-outdated one can be seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnhZgSDV1sQ here]].

Jack has also starred as Intern 2, one of the main characters on the web series ''WebVideo/MyMusic''.

Periodically, he will host a [=YouNow=] live stream of himself (at younow.com/jacksfilms) recording videos and more often than not answering questions.

----
!!Examples of tropes in Jacksfilms videos:
* AdamWesting: In "50 Facts You Can't Even", WebVideo/MatthewSantoro stars {{as himself}}, parodying his own "50 Amazing Facts To Blow Your Mind" videos.
* AffectionateParody: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmwme8DtAFY His parody]] of Series/{{Sherlock}} gained some controversy from viewers who thought he was disrespecting the series. Jack replied that it was "a parody FROM a fan TO the fans", and that making a parody couldn't pay it any higher praise.
* AlcoholInducedIdiocy: Chad's antics make frat boys look like teetotalers by comparison.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: [[invoked]] He interprets [[Franchise/TheMuppets Kermit the Frog]] as a surly, bitter drunk with frequent fantasies of violence.
* AlterEgoActing: Jack plays Chad "Broseph" Huntington, the backwards-cap double-popped-collar-wearing drinkin' fool.
%%* AmbiguouslyEvil
* {{Angrish}}: The comments in [[CapsLock ALL CAPS]] in ''Your Grammar Sucks'' are always interpreted this way.
* ArtifactTitle: The questions in ''Yesterday I Asked You'' aren't asked the day before the episode any more. They are now asked about a week beforehand so that Jack can stockpile episodes.
* AudienceParticipation: His channels basically ''thrives'' on this. Most, if not all, of YGS' material comes from user-submitted comment screencaps, with YGS #50 and #60 being particularly notable for being the first to include fan submissions.
** All questions in ''[=JackAsk=]'' come directly from fans.
** YIAY (Yesterday I Asked You) where he asks his fans certain questions and features the best and funniest of their answers in his videos.
* AutoTune: Parodied in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vygiNAk8d9Y&t=105 Dubstep Solves Everything 3]] when AutoTune Jesus is called upon.
* BassoProfundo: Once [[ItMakesSenseInContext Justin Bieber hits puberty]] in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuiNcI2RMTk this video]]. Becomes {{exaggerated|Trope}} when he hits ''super'' puberty.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO0zP-SB5hk In Fixing Your Flags]], one user smugly challenged Jack to fix the Australia flag. So how does Jack fix it? [[TakeThat Turning it into the British Flag]].
* BerserkButton:
** Jack tends to react badly when particularly bad comments get a high amount of likes. It's taken to its logical conclusion in YGS 57, where his reaction to a particularly bad comment getting an absurd amount of likes is to angrily lunge at the camera.
** He is also not a fan of WebVideo/RayWilliamJohnson, although he has made it clear that he respects Ray's ability to get people such as Robin Williams into his videos, and would also try to keep conversation polite despite not liking his work.
** One recently unearthed by ''[=JackAsk=]'' is when people submit incredibly random questions in attempts to sound funny, citing the rule that "RANDOM doesn't always equal FUNNY"- especially made clear in ''[=JackAsk #10=]''.
* BilingualBonus: The YGS comments in Spanish and Portuguese, which he'll read in a hokey Latin accent, while pronouncing laughter ("jajaja") with the English J.
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: In "When is something no longer cool?" (YIAY #287):
-->'''Comment 1''': When Hillary Clinton does it.
-->'''Comment 2''': When it's on [[Creator/EllendeGeneres The Ellen Show]].
-->'''Jack''': How about when Hillary Clinton does it ''on'' The Ellen Show? Oof, that is a ''dead'' meme. That is ''super'' dead.
* BreadEggsMilkSquick:
** His list of curse words in ''[=JackAsk=] #8''.
-->DANGIT
-->DANGUS
-->DANG
-->DARN
-->DERN
-->GOAT-FUCKER
** The list of songs in ''Disney/{{Frozen}} 2'':
-->I Love Rock and Roll\\
Rolling Stones\\
Pebble For Your Thoughts\\
Elsa's Dead Parents
** One answer for THE MEANING OF LIFE (in four words):
-->Live, laugh, love, [[OneOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers arson]]
* BrickJoke: In "Escape the Friendzone" (YIAY #89), one commenter leaves an answer to the question from YIAY #88 (superhero names and powers) instead:
-->Name: Internet Explorer\\
Superpower: Too late to post a comment.
* BrokenRecord: The candy cane song ("''stab x16''"). Even more so when he re-sang the song in a promo video for his [=YouNow=] chat that he was doing that day, when the aforementioned "stab" part is looped extensively to the point where people in the comments report hearing an entirely new word.
* ButtMonkey:
** Kristen. Even retroactively, in YGS #48 when the line "i thinking now on my girlfriend" brings up a picture of ''Jack himself in drag'' rather than Kristen. Although this is justified by them having broken up by then.
** Thanks to the fan submissions, Olga Kay has repeatedly been mentioned on YGS for her struggle with grammar. [[RunningGag OH OLGA.]]
** Billy in the Kermit animations, whom Kermit picks on more than any of the other students.
* CallBack:
** In "Scary Stories with Kermit", Kermit uses the line "shut up, sh-shut up," in reference to ''WebVideo/GamerGod88''[='=]s first Dark Souls 2 video.
** For a ''YIAY'' thumbnail for a video about the best place to hide a body, Jack re-donned the ''Series/{{Dexter}}'' getup that he had worn four years prior in a ''Dexter'' parody sketch.
* TheCameo: Jack appears briefly in the music video of Music/NinjaSexParty's "Cookies!", only surviving for a good five or so seconds before Ninja Brian breaks his neck.
* CarpetOfVirility: Despite his boyish face, he has a surprisingly hairy chest. Enough to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2430TdH62A shave]] into a [[Film/TheDarkKnightSaga Nolan!Batman symbol!]]
* CatchPhrase:
** Since [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsecDcTpVmw Your Grammar Sucks #1]], he's used the word "biches" to refer to his fans. In fact, a lot of his Catch Phrases originated from [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA6687CF25DE17420 Your Grammar Sucks.]] Quite a few of them also double as RunningGags.
** "That's almost a hundred..."[[labelnote:Explanation:]] At various points throughout YGS' history, he's said something along the lines of "Episode X? That's almost a hundred!" Becomes an IronicEcho when Jack does it in YGS '''#99'''.[[/labelnote]]
** ":a what a fucke?!" [[labelnote:Explanation]] Ever since [[http://youtu.be/el5rMq0TMUM?t=39s this]] entry from episode 21, he's used this sound bit/video clip/quote whenever he comes across a particularly baffling comment. [[http://youtu.be/IDmz7K385Qw?t=16m43s Behold,]] [[http://youtu.be/DS_zQw61PQE?t=11m22s all of them.]][[/labelnote]]
** "Oh, Olga!" [[labelnote:Explanation]] Fellow [=YouTuber=]/IRL friend Olga Kay, of Russian descent, has some trouble with the English language in written form (she's fluent in speech) despite having lived here for quite a few years, and Jack features one of her comments every once in a while in an episode of YGS, followed by him exclaiming "Oh, Olga!"[[/labelnote]]
** "Help me clean up [=YouTube=]! If you see an amazingly bad comment on the Internet, take a screencap of it and send it my way either via Twitter or my Facebook fanpage." [[labelnote:Explanation]] His plug at the end of every episode for sending him possible YGS entries. He eventually turned it into a jingle.[[/labelnote]]
** When he gets two contradicting comments in ''YIAY'' (ex: "fuck bitches get money", "get bitches fuck money"), he'll say "Which one do I believe?"
** "Me Me Big Boy!" was coined when Jack trolled a telemarketer by constantly repeating this phrase. Now it’s become a mainstay of his channel, with Jack even putting the phrase on a shirt.
%%** "Let me know if I nailed it or failed it."
%%** "Cool cool" has become one as of late, mainly through ''YIAY''.
%%** Nowadays he ends episodes of ''YIAY'' with "Godspeed."
%%** "Nailed it."
* ClipShow: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDmz7K385Qw Every]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS_zQw61PQE one]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-N2XKqapug of]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bin54qdtEcY the]] ''Your Grammar Sucks'' specials.
* ClickbaitGag:
** The video "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TduUs_DVIB0 I Have Something To Tell You]]" has a thumbnail with the creator on the verge of tears and opens with him struggling to speak as he tries to admit something... before he says he created the video title and faked crying to emotionally manipulate the viewer into clicking the video. And then he raps about it.
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcwGLjl2W_s The CLICKBAIT Game]]" has Jack list all of his fans attempts to make clickbait titles out of everyday situations like "I ate Chinese food." From that simple challenge, we get divine listicles like "DOES CHINESE FOOD MAKE YOU GAY?", "MY BEARD GOT DRUNK (THREESOME!?)", and "why im shutting down my channel (not clickbait)."
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-wIguaX97I YIAY 354]]" features fan-made thumbnails for Jack's videos, most of which exaggerate Clickbait staples like light nudity, giant red arrows, promises of face reveals, guilt-tripping, and the obligatory (not clickbait) text. The thumbnail that he loves the most is one that says "Youtube DELETING THUMBNAILS?", which he would use if he didn't want to be sadistically manipulative.
* ClusterFBomb[=/=]ClusterBleepBomb: When Justin Bieber searches up puberty and then [[ItMakesSenseInContext super puberty]] in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuiNcI2RMTk this video]].
* CockFight: The plot of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vygiNAk8d9Y Dubstep Solves Everything 3]].
* {{Corpsing}}: Jack sometimes fails to keep a straight face and starts cracking up while reading some of the more ridiculous misspellings in ''Your Grammar Sucks''. Jack has trouble staying in-character in YGS #84, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp5d3wzZraw and for good reason]]
* TheCoverChangesTheMeaning: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Kenluneho His ballad-esque cover of Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy With It"]].
%%* CurseCutShort: Often used in ''YIAY'' or ''Jackask''.
* DarkReprise: At the end of YGS #99, Jack sings a very melancholic, ballad-y reprise of the series's cheery outro jingle. [[TearJerker It hits HARD.]]
* ADateWithRosiePalms: Implied to unbearable extents in "Strokemeister" and its follow-up "Wiggledix".
-->'''Jack''': It has no batteries, [[DoubleEntendre so you'll do all the stroking yourself]].
%%** 1-800-HHHHHNNNNNNNGGGGGG
* DisappearedDad:
** Referenced in Jackask #38, where most of the answers to his Twitter question (what do you want for Christmas?) are along the lines of "a dad"/"my dad to come home".
-->'''Jack''': So I asked you all on Twitter, "what do you want for Christmas?" Here are your best answers: "a dad", "A dad", "a dad", "a dad", "your Mum.", "my dad", "My dad to come back", "my dad to come back", "my dad to come back from the store"-''aw'', is that what he told you?-, "[[WellDoneSonGuy my dad to finally call me son]]". [[BlackComedy Dark.]]
** Gets a CallBack in the following week's PMS, "9 New Christmas Songs".
--->"Christmas Dad": ''(singing):'' I wish I had a dad for Christmas... ''[{{Beat}}] (talking over the backing track):'' He told me he was going to the store... ''[{{Beat}}]'' I don't think he did.
** And in "Top 10 Top 10 Lists'", when one of the "top 10 words from 2014 that should stay in 2014" is 'dad', and Jack adding "dads aren't even real".
* DrinkingGame: Exclusive to the 'Chad' episodes of ''Your Grammar Sucks'', where Chad has to knock one back every time he corpses or otherwise flubs the reading.
* [[invoked]]DudeNotFunny:
** {{In-universe}}; Jack's reaction to serious comments in ''YIAY'' will actually be more of a [[InvertedTrope "dude, not UNfunny"]] sort of thing, since Jack will seem very shocked by the comment and might even tell the commenter to calm down, stating that ''YIAY'' is a ''comedy'' show.
** In one episode of ''YIAY'', Jack read off some answers that viewers gave him of book sequels they'd like to see. One answer was ''[[Literature/TheDiaryOfAYoungGirl The Diary of Anne Frank]]: Anne Goes to Hollywood''. Jack even reacted with, "That's awful."
* DullSurprise: Jack gives a major announcement at the end of Jackask #24, but only gives it a single sentence at the end of the video.
--> '''Jack''': New "Your Grammar Sucks" every Friday, and a new "PMS" every Monday. WebVideo/{{GamerGod88}} is coming back every Saturday, ''[Jack cringes]'' Oh God.
* EntitledToHaveYou: The (parodied) message of "Dubstep Solves Everything 3" is that, because Jack wins a fight over the girl, he gets to have her, regardless of her wishes.
* EpicFail: He once tried to prank call Toby Turner and say that his girlfriend was pregnant, with him not knowing what to do. Toby was ''watching the livestream he was doing this on'', and Jack didn't bother checking to see if he could.
* EvenTheSubtitlerIsStumped: Averted with one one of the fans who sent in a book of sheet music for all of Jack's songs. As it turns out, it [[https://youtu.be/hGRsNjaCLIE?t=168 even has lyrics for the Dubstep song]].
* FamousLastWords: A slew of them in the [[CaptainObvious "perfect last words"]] episode of ''YIAY''.
* FlippingTheBird: At the end of his first ''[=JackAsk=]''.
* FunWithAcronyms:
** The mainline content is classified as ''P''arody, ''M''usic Videos and ''S''ketches. What's the grab-all term for them? '''PMS'''.
** His advertisements at the end of the Jackask videos and some of the PMS episodes use this as a RunningGag, making a company's name (most commonly Audible's) into an acronym. Finally lampshaded and defied in #38:
--->'''Jack''': "Audible" stands for... nothing. Because it's not an acronym, it's the name of a cool company that has thousands of audiobooks from which to choose from, ''it's not that hard to get!''
* GrammarNazi: Jack’s ''Your Grammar Sucks'' series showcases the worst mangling of the English language found in comments across the Internet. He admits that his strictness comes from having studied English.
* GrandFinale: YGS #60 was played up to be this, [[BaitAndSwitch but it ends up being averted]]. It was then said for a while after that YGS #100 would be the finale of the series, and was hyped up as such for months, only for Jack to reveal in a YIAY that the series would continue afterwards.
%%* GutturalGrowler: Chad "Broseph" Huntington.
* HitlerAteSugar: "If you don't subscribe, that's fine. You know who else didn't subscribe? ''Hitler."''
* HopeSpot: At the end of YGS #100, it appears as though Jack has finally managed to clean up [=YouTube=], only for yet another bad, bad comment to show up.
* HurricaneOfPuns: This instance from "Strokemeister" combines this trope with AcCENTUponTheWrongSylLABle.
-->'''Chad''': Hey America! Wanna look ''ab''tastic? Then quit choking down the cheeseburgers and start stroking your way to an ''ab''normally ''ab''stract ''ab''yss. You wanna know my ''ab''pinion? Check yourself into reh''ab'' if you don't h''ab''pen to get the re''ab''tions you want!
** UpToEleven in "WTF Blanket 3: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Awful Pun Overload]]".
* HypocriticalHumor: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a6bS6s2UUo A MESSAGE TO ALL YOUTUBERS]] involves Jack advising them to keep their endings short. Most of the video itself is taken up by him plugging the Gatorade drink.
** "You don't have to end every sentence with 'tho' tho."
* ImAHumanitarian: In the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmwme8DtAFY Sherlock parody]], Sherlock sees a dab of ketchup on Watson's mouth, a half-eaten burger, and a bottle of ketchup. What does he assume? [[spoiler:Watson killed and cooked someone into that burger.]]
* IncrediblyLamePun: "If you liked the Strokemeister, you'll ''throb''ably like WIGGLEDIX."
* IncrediblyLongNote: From one of his ''[=JackAsk=]'' videos: [[Disney/{{Frozen}} "Do you wanna build a snowmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa--"]]
* IntentionallyAwkwardTitle:
** In 2008, there was a video made in which two Jacks played pool against each other. What did he decide to name the video? [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2TJ1ABXt1I "Playing]] [[ADateWithRosiePalms with]] [[{{Pun}} Myself".]]
** In 2014, he released a video titled [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dQBTdUlT18 "50 Amazing Facts that will Blow You]][[labelnote:note]]away"[[/labelnote]].
* ItMakesSenseInContext: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiM8HRefY3k Invoked]] by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujzfv5Mg47c any]] sketch episode, by attempting to build context for the horrific comments in sketch style. The result is an {{homage}} to ''WesternAnimation/RobotChicken'' or ''WebVideo/AMVHell''.
** [[http://youtu.be/el5rMq0TMUM?t=39s The "A what a fucke?"]] comments, when Jack himself has no idea what the context could possibly be.
* ItsPronouncedTroPAY: Jack has stated that he refuses to pronounce [[Music/TheBlackEyedPeas will.i.am]]'s name as "will-I-am" because it sounds ridiculous. He always pronounces it as "William".
* JumpScare: At the end of "'LYMPIC GAMES, 'LYMPIC GAMES", Jack runs into his green screen and it suddenly cuts to his bloody face screaming at the viewer.
* TheLancer: Cyr. Sean Klitzner, Roomie, Tobuscus, Olga, and Erin have all have filled in this role as well depending on the particular video.
* LargeHam: At points.
* [[LongSpeechTeatime Long Note Teatime]]: Towards the end of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXtXHkgalwM the Valentine's Day song]]. It's not even that long.
* MadnessMantra:
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SabcO9j09GE TOP 10 YOUTUBERS]] quickly devolves into Jack chanting “THEY’RE ALL PEWDIEPIE” while he slowly becomes a crazed fan.
** Jack repeats the question “[[https://youtu.be/oRbRNWFr1dc?t=28s How many hours do you spend to edit videos?]]” twice on his computer while saying it in real-life as he turns towards the camera.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: On screen, Jack plays up the act of being a pompous dick. Off screen, he's a friendly, humble, and approachable guy.
* MistakenForGay: Several ''[=JackAsk=]'' questions, especially in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37zQdiwqQr4 the first one]], involve whether or not he is gay.
* MoodWhiplash: Jack often uses these tropes to comedic effect, often overlapping with BreadEggsMilkSquick:
** In ''YGS'':
*** [[http://youtu.be/fyKxp5e9Lf4?t=2m53s This]] expletive-filled, ranting YGS entry inexplicably ends with the words "I like that", and Jack reads it accordingly.
*** YGS #88's final comment has this, lampshaded by Jack:
--->'''Jack''': "It's pretty bad that people wait an entire year before bringing something special back up. I'm not only talking about 9/11 but also Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentines day... You have 365 days to tell your parents you love them. You have 365 days to tell your significant other you love them and appreciate them. And you all have 365 days to remember 9/11... So why do you only choose one day out of the year to remember? I'm sorry but it seems to me that [[spoiler:some people use it as an excuse to be more racist than normal]]." ''Where did that come from?!''
** In ''PMS'':
*** "YouTube Is Not a Job" has Jack defending his channel as a legitimate career choice to his family before they agree to watch a video of his to convince them that he does more than just "make cat videos". Cue Jack's supposed latest video, [[spoiler:"Top Ten Farts"]].
*** From "#[=ChristmasMiracle=]", ''"We'll cuddle by the Christmas tree/[[spoiler:Doesn't matter if you're not 18!]]"''
*** In "Christmas is my favourite freaking holiday", the songs becomes intentionally offensive[[note]]Intentionally so because it is being sung to Sean, a Jew[[/note]], but then...
-->''Christmas is my favourite freaking holiday!''\\
''It's not like any other freaking holiday!''\\
''[[MoodWhiplash If you don't like Christmas, you're probably a Jew]]''\\
''[[CrossesTheLineTwice And I don't want nothing to do with you]]''\\
''Bum bum, bum bum, bum bum ba-dum bum bum''
** Used near-constantly in the Kermit animations.
--->'''Kermit''': ''Ghosts aren't real, but my lust for blood is.''
** From "9 New Christmas Songs": ''Candy canes, candy canes, lick 'em in a spear and kill your enemies! Stab (x16)-'', and later, when ending the video:
--->'''Jack''': They sound like Christmas songs you know, but they're not, it's all an illusion, life isn't real, happy boxing day!
** "Top 10 Top 10 Lists" has a few instances of this: 'Top 10 Songs' is comprised mostly of both real and fictitious pop songs from modern artists, before abruptly ending with #1 being [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyX "At Zanarkand" by Nobuo Uematsu]]. 'Top 10 Shades of Grey' ends with #1 being "my soul". And probably the biggest use comes from 'Top 10 words from 2014 that should stay in 2014', when the background music even cuts out when Jack reveals the number one word to be [[spoiler:'ebola']].
--->'''Jack''': And the number one word from 2014 that should stay in 2014... [[spoiler:'ebola']].
** Jack uses this trope in almost every episode of ''YIAY'', ending with a somewhat thoughtful comment, immediately followed by a joke one. Sometimes, he just ends the video on the serious comment, although this trope is still in play.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: ''Dubstep Solves Everything'', where Jack tries talking to his parents or winning a girl's heart through dancing to dubstep...although occasional cuts back to reality show that the concept is ''way'' cooler in his head.
* MyEyesAreUpHere: Said by Chad in ''Get Pumped with Chad'' after the camera focuses on his pecs.
* OhWaitThisIsMyGroceryList: One person decided to be clever when [[https://youtu.be/2J5us5gukkc?t=58s making an acronym for the word "vote".]] Jack doesn't take too kindly, as usual.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The end of the December 7th episode of ''News In Haikus'' ("Relax about Franchise/StarWars") has a severe case of MoodWhiplash when Jack brings up the fact that Eric Garner's killer, a police officer that strangled him, isn't even being trialled despite it being viewed on camera. Unlike the other haikus, this was ''not'' PlayedForLaughs.
* OverlyLongGag:
** The first ''[=JackAsk=]'' in its entirety only consists of one question: "Are you gay?"
** Similarly, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrpJQEXY0mI "JACKASK #23"]] consists entirely of people criticizing his [[PornStache mustache]].
** Nepal's flag gets this unwanted treatment [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Aiyi77M_vI in one YIAY]] after the Nepalis critically disliked "Top 10 Worst Flags in the World".
* {{Parody}}: Jack specialises in critically mocking things that he finds ridiculous.
** Boybands are a recurring thing - "Christmas Sex" is a style parody of the Music/BackstreetBoys, and a Music/OneDirection spoof called "Paperbag" has been done.
** And of course, there are his ever-present {{infomercial}} parodies.
** ''And'' his series of {{Literature/Twilight}} "in a minute" videos.
** And whenever a new Apple product is announced, expect a Jacksfilms parody soon afterward.
** There's also the series of parody commercials for the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h05ZQ7WHw8Y Snuggie]].
%%* PetTheDog: Some of the Your Grammar Sucks comments earn a SlowClap from Jack.
* PleaseSubscribeToOurChannel: Inverted in "WTF is Jacksfilms":
-->SUBSCRIBE TO LetsPlay/{{PEWDIEPIE}} INSTEAD
* PoesLaw: Inverted. At least one intentionally bad comment has gotten onto Your Grammar Sucks.
* PreciousPuppy: Jack owns two adorable toy American Eskimo dogs named Klondike and Sundae. Klondike was introduced in the 59th ''YGS'' episode (in September 2013), while Sundae was introduced in the 230th ''YIAY'' episode (at the start of 2016).
* PrecisionFStrike: "What is dubstep?" "That's a good '''''FUCKING''''' question!"
** Another in his ''Drama is More Popular Than Content'' video. "We're in the thick of it. And I'm '''''GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING SICK OF IT''''' "
* [[RecurringRiff Recurring Riff/Song/Rap/Thing?]]: [[SuperBowl Super Bowl. Super Bowl. Gotta have me my Super Bowl]]...or [[UsefulNotes/OlympicGames 'Lympic Games]].
* RosesAreRedVioletsAreBlue: [[SublimeRhyme Done three times so far, in Yesterday I Asked You.]]
* RougeAnglesOfSatin: Obviously parodied quite a lot in Your Grammar Sucks and some of his PMS videos. For example...
** [[http://youtu.be/fyKxp5e9Lf4?t=1m6s Mixing up "Gentle" and Genital"]] (whoopsie daisy).
** A double offender: "[[http://youtu.be/R7HcBngM4Ko?t=5s This is Evan worse then 9/11]]".
** Jack reading comments that have "defiantly" in place of "definitely" [[http://youtu.be/DS_zQw61PQE?t=18m12s is fairly common,]] and it's become a RunningGag for Jack to use the [[UpperClassTwit Sophisticated Man voice]] whenever he comes across one with it in it. Similarly for whenever [[http://youtu.be/IDmz7K385Qw?t=2m32s somebody mistakes "Collage" for "College".]]
** The infamous [[http://youtu.be/DS_zQw61PQE?t=14m33s Rapping/Raping Rapper/Raper]] thing. Jack even had to make [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NARxgXEdlzs a damn song]] out of it.
** "Top 10 Top 10 Lists" features Jack (intentionally) misreading ''Film/AirBuddies'' as ''Film/AirBud Dies''.
* RuleOfThree: YGS 15, 25, and 99 each end in the same two comments:
-->''thumbs up and copy+ paste in every''
-->''this is the best song every :)''
** Similarly, "theres never not not nuttin" shows up in YGS 10, 50, and 99.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Jack's reaction to how the last comment got 214 likes in ''Your Grammar Sucks #43''.
* SelfDeprecation: Olga Kay showed up in person in YGS #40 to acknowledge her poor grammar skills.
** In his "acceptance speech" ''YIAY'' episode, one commenter stated that they would thank Jacksgap for being the only successful Youtuber named Jack. Jack himself then disproves this... by stating that there's also LetsPlay/JackSepticEye.
** Jack lists a group of fellow Youtubers who could beat him up, and they include [[WebVideo/RhettAndLink Link]], Tyler Oakley, and [[WebVideo/CutiePieMarzia Marzia]].
* SerialEscalation: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC9OX4pfjjE YGS #60]]. Despite being just 10 eps after #50, they crank the guest stars and the fan submissions UpToEleven.
* SexWithTheEx: Stated by one comment in ''[[https://youtu.be/nIdhjVbC5yA?t=26s YIAY #116]]''.
* SherlockScan: Parodied in his [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmwme8DtAFY Sherlock parody]], where Sherlock assumes that Watson [[spoiler:killed someone and cooked them into the burger that he was eating.]]
* ShoutOut:
** One comment in ''Your Grammar Sucks #48'' is most certainly a reference to ''My Music''.
** Another one in #49 attempts to sum up ''Series/DoctorWho'', which works as well as you'd expect.
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG6LeucT_5Y Jack's "dream interpreting" episode of YIAY]], he came across a comment that described a dream where a satellite came down and crashed on someone's house. Jack gave two explanations: they had Instagram haters, or they've been watching ''Film/DonnieDarko''.
** Another dream was that someone was a dragon who got hungry and ate their own family. Jack explained that this represented the dreamer's Music/{{appetite for destruction}}..."which is the best Music/GunsNRoses album".
* SlasherSmile: Jack's signature "creeper face" (see picture above).
* SmallReferencePools: A comment in Music/OneDirection fanspeak slipped clean past the ''Your Grammar Sucks'' radar.
** As did a Film/BackToTheFuture reference in YGS #12. ("I am your density.")
** This frequently happens to Jack’s significant other, Erin, who is self-described as "basic" and has almost no knowledge of video games and anime.
** A Webcomic/{{Polandball}} reference flies over his in YGS #105.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: Whenever his girlfriend Erin appears on [=JackAsk=]. The two of them lob insults at the questions and each other, and they're equally matched.
* SpecialGuest: Including Creator/GraceHelbig (Idol from WebVideo/MyMusic), Brock Baker, Sean Klitzner, Webvideo/TayZonday, Creator/{{Tobuscus}}, [[Creator/TheFineBrothers Benny and Rafi Fine]], and [[SelfDeprecation Olga Kay]].
** YGS #50 adds Jesse and Jeana of ''Prank vs Prank'', Creator/ShaneDawson, {{WebVideo/Smosh}}, [[WebVideo/MyMusic Indie]], Chester See, [=MysteryGuitarMan=] and LetsPlay/PewDiePie!
** YGS #60 adds WebVideo/RhettAndLink, [[WebVideo/EpicMealTime Harley Morenstein]], Tyler Oakley, the couple from WebVideo/{{CTFxC}}, the remaining cast of ''My Music'' (including News Newsman!) and Jon Cozart, the "After Ever After" guy known as "Paint".
** ''50 Facts You Can't Even'', an AffectionateParody of WebVideo/MatthewSantoro's 50 Amazing Facts videos, brings us WebVideo/MatthewSantoro himself.
* StayInTheKitchen: PlayedForLaughs at the end of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cF7xZdE9YrY this video]].
* StressVomit: In the "Dubstep Solves Everything" video, Jack's convulsing to his own dubstep noises makes the girl he's coming onto puke in distress and creeped-out-ness.
* StupidStatementDanceMix: They're not dance mixes, per se, but YGS #[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgSaHZD8078 10]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK9nAqS4C2I 15]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huHVgB_TdBE 25]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbOWBUcehVs 30]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnAOuEPZ1ng 35]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLfhizLZi7c 45]], [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiKy18I9ONU 65]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R57wdB49oKA 75]] are all songs or PissTakeRap comprised (nearly) entirely of badly spelled comments. ''He even rhymed'' them. And believe it or not, there are a few instances where two comments in a row ''actually make sense together''.
** Sometimes done on a case-by-case basis for single comments in the regular YGS run, generally involving SelfBackingVocalist.
* {{Tagline}}: For a while, YGS had the tagline "Every [[PrecisionFStrike Damn]] Friday," reflecting its usual upload schedule. The series eventually fell into [[invoked]]ScheduleSlip, making it redundant.
* TakeThat:
** A ''merciless'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE6AccjLG1s parody]] of Music/TaylorSwift’s songs basically has sad groaning as lyrics and Jack making pained expressions in the video.
** From ''Bro 90 X'':
-->'''Chad''': You'll lose pounds faster than BP[[note]]A British oil and gas company responsible for multiple environmental and safety violations[[/note]] is losing credibility.
-->(topical burn)
** In his WebVideo/VSauce parody, he discusses a unit of measurement in music that our bodies reject once we listen to it. He calls the unit "biebs". He also says that Music/{{Nickelback}} songs have many, many biebs, and that is why people who listen to them feel like committing suicide.
** In one of his ''[=JackAsk=]'' videos, he says that everyone has listened to Linkin Park at some time in their life, but then something clicks in their mind and they say, "Wow. What the fuck am I doing?"
** His video, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsTRTzN0MH8 I NEED TO HOST =3]]. "But what if it were funny?"
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEFlMz2huNk&list=UUPcFg7aBbaVzXoIKSNqwaww This episode]] of [=JackAsk=] has a particularly sharp dig at Sam Pepper, a [=YouTuber=] presently being investigated for sexual abuse. Subsequent episodes also took sharp digs at him.
%%** To homophobic people in general.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Implied in "9 New Christmas Songs".
-->''Stab (x16)''
* TooIncompetentToOperateABlanket: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huo7h53G0IM trope namer]] gets parodied in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBL0RUJx7-I WTF Blanket 4: Failure Pants]].
--> '''Narrator''': If you don't know how to operate a blanket... chances are you're a few chromosomes shorts of human.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Tobuscus/Toby Turner; the two prank one another on a near constant basis, including in their respective videos. Regardless, the two are good friends and regularly collaborate. The same goes for Sean Klitzner, who has jokingly said that Jack is his archnemesis and constantly tries pranking him, and for [=OlgaKay=], although his ribbing on her is more one-sided.
* VomitDiscretionShot: Implied in ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL7RpV_-1YY Your Grammar Sucks #31]]'' as Chad, where the scene quickly cuts to him holding a bucket, shortly after declaring that he may or may not need it.
* VomitIndiscretionShot: At the end of "DUBSTEP SOLVES EVERYTHING". The girl whom Jack tries to flirt with via singing dubstep becomes so disgusted by him ends up vomiting slightly.
%%** A running gag in ''[=JackAsk=]''.
%%* WalkingShirtlessScene: Chad, more often than not.
%%* AWildRapperAppears: Tobuscus in "Take Off Your Clothes (Like Creator/ScarlettJohansson)".
%%** Jack himself for YGS #45, except it starts before the midpoint of the video and pretty much takes over.
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljWcpj8N6ws Literally]]", which is a collection of tweets that misuse the eponymous word. The ending card reads “Friends don’t let friends misuse the word ‘literally’. If not, you’re [[GodwinsLaw literally Hitler]]”.
