French Creek Files is a 7-episode entry in The Slender Man Mythos featuring tropers Communist Beans and 8bitsquirrel.
It all starts when friends Adrian and Conor have a nice evening walk on a local nature trail on Adrian's suggestion; both of them record it on cameras, also Adrian's idea. The story picks up when Conor wants to turn back and Adrian wants to go a bit more, saying he'll only be twenty minutes... and when Conor looks for him, he finds a bloodied white doll and Adrian's camera.
The series may not have the complex plots of the bigger-name series or amazing effects, but for a series filmed over two days it's not bad at all.
French Creek Files provides examples of:
- Abandoned Area: The fourth and fifth videos have sections shot in and around an abandoned and dying barn-like structure with an area of decaying linoleum tile in front of it.
- According to the creators it was an old sort of garden store or something, and it's gone now.
- Abandoned Playground: Not actually abandoned, but in the third video Conor's alone in the playground at night... well, almost alone.
- Apocalyptic Log: We know from the start that neither of the guys was found, but the videos show how we got there.
- Author Appeal: In the first video, there's Super Sentai and Kamen Rider music playing in the car. Both the guys are tokusatsu fans IRL.
- Captain's Log: Conor does this at the beginning of the seventh video after having seen what's on Adrian's camera.
- Creepy Cemetery: Two times, one with each protagonist. Interestingly, both are in the daytime.
- Creepy Doll: Conor finds one with Adrian's camera at the end of the second episode. It's bloodied and might be familiar to some.
- Found Footage Series: The videos are put together from what a park ranger found on the guys' cameras.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: Not as brief as some examples, but a bit over a minute into the second video, Conor's camera passes over a tree with a familiar symbol scratched into it...
- Genre Savvy:
- Conor: "Should I park in the woods? Though I think every movie has taught me parking in the woods—actually no, you only get killed if you park in the woods with a girl."
- Jump Scare: In the fifth video, a brief burst of distortion coupled with a quick shot of Slendy very close is this.
- Right Behind Me: In the first part of the seventh video.
- Seinfeldian Conversation: Pretty much all of the first video and a good chunk of the second. The outtakes have even more of it, and it's all pretty funny.
