Kirby Adventure
is a completed Kirby Sprite Comic on Smack Jeeves about Kirby and his squad, a unit of the Kirby Adventure Squad, as they solve various tasks from the residents of Dream Land, while occasionally meeting an angry ex-member of the KAS named Talzo, and many other strange characters along the way. The final story arc was released in 2017.
Not to be confused with Kirby's Adventure.
Tropes that appear in this work:
- Achievements in Ignorance: During the Tree to Tree arc, Kirby is magically transported to a zone created by Wiz. Somehow two Cloud Cuckoo Landers, FP and Caiya (in her stupid personality), managed to land themselves there. It turns out it was an illusion, but neither of them knew that and Caiya destroyed Wiz without even knowing he was an enemy so it's double subverted.
- A Day in the Limelight: Division Addition and C Central each focused on some of the other divisions of the KAS.
- All Your Base Are Belong to Us: "Infiltration" sees Talzo's gang launching an invasion of Division A's base.
- All Your Powers Combined: Almost all of the characters who has ever appeared the comic (plus a few crossover characters) loan Kirby their power in the final segment so he can defeat Miracle Matter.
- And the Adventure Continues: The comic ends with the KAS being called to a new adventure.
- Art Shift: The third-to-last panel of the finale of "Jetting Across The Ice" shifts to drawn artwork.
- Back for the Finale: Almost everyone who has ever appeared in the comic sends Kirby their power in the Final Battle.
- Book Ends: The first segment of the comic is called "The First Mission". The last segment of the comic is called "The Final Mission".
- The Cameo: Kirby, Keeby and Kexas from Kirby's Dream Adventure and Kirby and Daisy from 20 Times Kirby appear during the Final Battle to give Kirby Adventure Kirby their power.
- Character Development: Kirby becomes more serious as the comic goes on, though he eventually decides to lighten up more often.
- Colour-Coded Characters: And thank god for it, most of the characters are based on Kirby Palette Swap options, though even the more unique characters have their own colors as well.
- Crossover: Kirby's Dream Adventure, another popular Kirby Sprite Comic on Smack Jeeves, and Kirby Adventure. Notable in that the crossover happened in both comics at the same time. In the same fashion, another was done with the comic 20 Times Kirby!, and then later a second crossover was performed with Kirby's Dream Adventure again.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: The first two segments ("The First Mission" and "Average Days") are chock-full of it, with both being full of odd, out-of-character gags that don't really fit in with the rest of the comic.
- Epic Fail: Vezo and Fanhal get into this every now and then. In "Jetting Across the Ice," Vezo backed off a cliff. TWICE. In "From Dream Adventures", Fanhal ends up planting
Rosies instead of the Mega Tomato, resulting in him ending up in the hospital room with severe mental scarring. - Enemy Civil War: Zykan defeats Talzo and reprograms Kiina to be loyal to him, solidifying himself as the true authority in the group, aside from MSG.
- Flanderization: Falcon_Pawnch, or FP for short, was much more of a Cloud Cuckoo Lander during his second appearance than his first one. However, he is a lone wanderer so it isn't clear if he is suffering from this trope or he is having trouble dealing with the isolation.
- Foreshadowing:
- At the end of Such An Odd Eight, Shat'l imparts a message to Daisy that hints towards one of her machines malfunctioning in the future. Sure enough, a few chapters later in 20 Times Kirby, her next attempt at making a machine backfires and all of the characters swap abilities.
- Nameless mentions that Shadow Kirby gave the Dimension Mirror to Taranza for safe-keeping, setting up the plot for Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Lampshaded by Dark Matter.
Dark Matter: Huh... why does that sound familiar? Weird.
- Fun with Acronyms: In the "Helping Hand" segment, Division A meets an organization of helpers called H.A.N.D, Helpers Assisting Needy Dreamlanders. To a lesser extent, the KAS (Kirby Adventure Squad) though their acronym doesn't have a double meaning.
- A House Divided: Miracle Matter's ultimate plan is to turn Division A against each other. He succeeds in his goal, but Dark Matter (and Projection-Keito) manage to bring the team together again.
- It's Personal with the Dragon: Talzo is the one the Kirby Adventure Squad is focused on capturing, due to the Big Bad preferring to stay in the shadows. For the longest time, our heroes thought that Talzo was the Big Bad.
- Last Villain Stand: Miracle Matter opts to launch a final attack on Division A's base after the KAS discover his presence.
- The Leader: Kirby, Fanhal, Aika and Satomi are all levelheaded leaders.
- The Man Behind the Man: Shortly after his second appearance, Talzo is revealed to be acting under the orders of a mysterious, red-eyed individual. While this reveal happens early on, the KAS don't become aware of his existence until towards the end of the comic. The "Mysterious Shadowy Guy" is also revealed to have been behind Wake/Fune, the other mole inside the KAS.
- The Medic:
- Saia is Division A's field medic. While she is a Technical Pacifist, she will use her umbrella to defend herself. She even took down Talzo during his initial attack on KAS. However, she literally does not attack. She only uses defensive moves and is later crushed by Talzo in a straight up fight.
- Meanwhile, Meliai seems to completely lack martial skills, but she is a more formal doctor. If an injury occurs at KAS HQ, people seek out Meliai's help before they go to Saia. Saia's clone, Not-Saia is the same as the original. However, she works in the Infirmary with Meliai.
- During KA's crossover with Kirby's Dream Adventure, Kooby spent his time working in the medical center with Meliai. However, Klooshy, Kooby's apprentice, spent his time setting off explosions under the supervision of Raize.
- The Mole:
- Gigi becomes this when she gets sent by Talzo to infiltrate the Kirby Adventure Squad.
- According to Hali, Talzo was also this when he was a member of the KAS. Subverted. The real mole was Wake/Fune, who sold off classified information and apparently got the blame placed on Talzo.
- Mysterious Past: Most characters don't have a past mentioned and some characters have aspects of their pasts hidden, like Kirby's previous defeats. However, there are a few true examples of this trope.
- Vezo. So far, we've met two Gims from his past. One of them currently works for the bad guys, and does not remember him.
- Nameless, like Vezo, just showed up at KAS asking for a job one day. He claims to not have a name and, therefore, was given his current nickname. There isn't much known about him or his past and he is a relatively quiet person. Turns, out, he's actually a Maiga who apparently joined the squad in order to track down Fune.
- Shat'l, likewise, showed up out of the blue to offer his services. Nothing is known about his life before KAS.
- Mythology Gag: Several references have been made towards the games.
- In "Tree to Tree," Kirby encounters two thieves who mention being from the Popopo Islands.
- "Tear In The Fabric" starts off with Yin Yarn sending Kirby to Patch Land. He then announces his plans to take over Dreamland, right in front of Kaxo…
- In "Technical Difficulties", Axe Knight and Mace Knight refused to come out to the base of Halberd, because it's "cold, too high and scary". Kaxo promptly calls them "chickens".
- "Pay Day" features Kirby going on a vacation to the Popopo Islands, setting up the plot of Kirby Mass Attack. The ending also features Necrodeus, the game's Big Bad.
- In "Lessons Learned", when Bandy and unnamed Waddle Doo try to cook Kimsy (from Kirby's Dream Adventures, mind you), Bandy says he can't find any recipes for cooking Kirbies. He says he thought he found a recipe, but it turns out somebody just taped a Kirby picture over the actual ingredient.
- Nameless's flashback in "Darkness Rising" shows Shadow Kirby giving Taranza the Dimension Mirror for safekeeping.
- Original Character: Quite a few; Fusion Kirby, Jarkes, FP, Ignus Unis, Jet, Satomi, Gigi, Kiblar, Wheelzen, Jayk, Chef Freezè, Whirr, and Kiyosi appear in the comic. Author appears as Ultimate Kirby.
- Technically, most of the characters are Original Characters. The above characters are characters submitted by the fans as minor characters that show up at different points, either as clients for the KAS (Jet, FP, Jarkes, Kiblar, Wheelzen), or minor villains (Fusion Kirby, Ignus Unis, Chef Freezè;). Four of them (Satomi, Gigi, Whirr, Kiyosi) are instead minor or major characters who got in due to winning an art contest.
- One-Steve Limit: Averted several times.
- NAVO and Navo both share the same name due to the latter being an improved version of the former.
- In the first crossover segment, the Kirby from Kirby's Dream Adventure enters the comic. Being an alternate version of Kirby, he shares the same name with Kirby Adventure's Kirby.
- While the clones from Master of Puppets have the prefix "Not-" before their names, in-comic they use the same name as the originals.
- Posthumous Character: Keeby, after saving Kirby's life.
- Pyromaniac: Kaxo.
- Pointy-Haired Boss: Fanhal.
- Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: When Kirby kills Galacta Knight at the end of The Beginning, his brief speech uses this trope.
- Shout-Out: A scene in Darkness Rising has Raize and Hali trying to find the world of Kirby's Dream Adventure via a portal. They have troubles with finding the right world, however, and many different Kirby comics on Smack Jeeves get referenced as incorrect worlds the portal took them to.
- Split Personality: Caiya has two separate personalities. One is an energetic Cloudcuckoolander while the other is optimistic and intelligent.
- Supporting Leader: Hali is the Director of the KAS overall, but stays in the background while Kirby and the other Division leaders go out on missions.
- Villain Decay: Talzo goes from being able to wipe the floor with almost every member of the KAS A-Squad, even defeating three at once just by analyzing their personalities and fighting styles on the spot in his first appearance, to making several mistakes in logic and running away when all 9 members (And Jet and Ignus) corner him. To be fair, part of the logical mistakes he had made were because he had not fought Shadik, and as a result, Shadik was able to break them out of the mirror trap because of a loophole, as well as not considering that the KAS couldn't escape any of the other traps. That and, except for when he fought Raize, Caiya, and Kaxo all at once, he had fought each of the team members one on one.
- It doesn't help that he gets knocked out by Zykan in one blow towards the end of Infiltration.
- Wham Episode:
- Jetting Across The Ice marks the return of Talzo, this time with a few friends, and the reveal of a mysterious character behind him.
- Infiltration features numerous plot points, including Keito's death and NAVO's Heel–Face Turn.
