Webcomic / Grand Theft Auto City 17

Grand Theft Auto: City 17 is a fan-Webcomic by Kadorhal (also known as WolfZword), based on the PlayStation 2-era Grand Theft Auto series. However, rather than characters and locations taken from those games, its cast and set are from Half-Life 2, created with Garry's Mod.

Set in and around the eponymous City 17, it follows the adventures of a man named Othias Matthew, who has just moved in with an older friend of his. Within a short period of time, he meets a number of other characters ranging from serious to quirky, before heading out to the city proper and beginning the story.

As per usual for the author, it entered indefinite hiatus shortly after getting past the first mission.

This work contains examples of:

• Affectionate Parody: Of Grand Theft Auto III and its prequels, if mocking the hell out of things like the stupidity of the cops is "affectionate".
• Artificial Stupidity: As befitting a GTA3 parody, the Metro Cops are really bad at their job.
  • Referenced and deliberately invoked in this strip◊.
  This is more or less based on my favorite bout of police stupidity in GTA3, the one where you board the ship in Portland Harbor and police officers will throw themselves into the water and drown.
• Continuity Lockout: The descriptions for the strips talk about a lot of things that only close friends of his or people who know of his other projects would be aware of.
  • "I regret ever putting Duke Nukem into my YouTube Poop"
  • "So if you've ever played Half-Life 2 (and, chances are if you're reading this you either haven't or aren't able to)..."
• Critical Existence Failure: Done in the style of GTA◊, specifically the hunger mechanic from San Andreas.
• Death Is a Slap on the Wrist: Also in the style of GTA◊, complete with Lampshade Hanging that they respawned at what is very clearly not a hospital due to not having visited one yet.
• Disproportionate Retribution: Also befitting a GTA3 parody, the Metro Cops are way too eager to shoot Othias.
• Expy: Characters tend to be a famous character or person portrayed as a Half-Life character, such as a Gordon Freeman ragdoll who couldn't face-pose as Steven Hawking.
• Filler: One constant of the series - frequent non-sequiturs that vary on how attached they are to the actual plot.
• Fridge Logic: invoked The idea behind the above "Grenades" strip.
• Funny Background Event: Occasionally, such as in this filler panel◊.
• Irony: Abel is repeatedly referred to as a hard worker while Othias and Hawking are searching for apartments, but he's just playing games like Team Fortress 2 the whole time.
• No Fourth Wall: Played around with: the characters know they're in a Grand Theft Auto-style game (to the point that people converse with the hint dialogue on multiple occasions), but they don't know that the game is actually a comic.
• Schedule Slip: The other constant of the series (and everything the author in question makes, for that matter), though mostly caused by computer issues that went away after the first dozen or so strips - after that point, with one exception, the author kept on a once-every-Friday schedule for seven months.
• Self-Deprecation: The other other constant of the series (and everything etc.):
  I wonder if anyone's noticed nearly all of my punchlines since last April sucked.^note The joke being that the comic had started on April Fool's Day the year before.
• Shout-Out: On occasion.
  • "Ow◊. My brittle old-man spine."
  • "But can he see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?◊"
  • Two for one◊.
• Take That!: "Comics made with screenshots from Brawl are a bad idea." Also, this◊ strip, towards how often Wikia wikis tend to be literal trainwrecks.
