L to R: Yukari, Tsuki, and Chitose

Long ago in ancient times, there were cool forces that raged explosive ninja battles for the throne. But there was one group that decided to rise up, and enter victory for which the other groups could not partake! It was a beautiful display of power and beauty and strength. However, another group decided to stand up to this apocalyptic world with elegant samurai! And thus, today's world was born. But that isn't what this story is about. This story is about a girl in modern-day Tokyo night.
Opening Narration from the first episode

Tsuki Desu is a YouTube and Nico Nico hosted Fanime series by Anthony W.H., started in the Spring of 2012. Najika Tsuki attends the night school Sugoi Gakuen Academy School in modern-day Tokyo, living a seemingly normal life (albeit with no friends). She pines after Student Council President, Yukari Bueno, spends her free time with cats, and laments that she definitely has no friends. But that all changes when New Transfer Student Chitose Miyamoto shows up one day, and he seems to want to be Najika's friend....!

This is the second series released by master fanime creator Anthony, who already released a fanime of similar QUALITY, known as Quest Of Laizen.

Current episodes you can watch on the creator's channel, or on English Nico Nico for commenting enjoyment.

Tropes that ''Tsuki Desu" provides an example of:

  • Bilingual Bonus: Najika works for one episode at Hazukashi Diner. Hazukashi means I'm embarassed.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Najika defeats her evil side, but finds out that while she was trapped in time, Yukari and Chitose lived their lives without her. They eventually die of old age and reunite with her, Kureno and Daisuke in the afterlife. Though it's shown years later that Najika has reincarnated, meeting with a now adult Sakura once again.
  • Canon Welding: The last few episodes heavily imply Quest Of Laizen took place in this verse's past.
  • Captain Ersatz:
    • Anyone who is familiar with the *ahem* popular fanime Yin Yang will see quite a few similarities between the two.
    • Episode 5 gives us Bunny and Kitten, who are unmistakable copies of Jessie and James from Pokémon
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The plot becomes far more intense after Najika goes back in time. Made all the more obvious because the Eye Catches that referenced previous fanime vanish right around then.
  • A Death In The Lime Light: Sakura performs a Heroic Sacrifice near the end of the episode. Subverted when she shows up in The Stinger of the final episode.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Count how many times "Tsuki Desu" is mentioned in the first episode, or how many times Najika muses on her lack of friends.
  • Deuteragonist: Yukari, with Chitose as the Tritagonist. The same applies to their ancestors in Feudal Japan after they replace them in story role, with King "Yukari" Ryuubi Gentoku playing Supporting Leader with "Cheetos" Kan'u Unchou as his Knight in Shining Armor Number Two.
  • MacGuffin: Najika's heart, the Tsuki Desu.
  • Maid Cafe: Najika visits and works at one briefly, called Hazukashi Diner.
  • Meaningful Name: Najika Tsuki - Rainbow Moon
  • Mind Screw: A brief moment in Episode 1, when Najika has what can only be described as a bad trip while she stares at the school bullies.
  • Nice Guy: Chitose never really does anything mean. In fact, despite being a Succubus, there's no indication that he's bringing any harm to Najika via their relationship.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Yukari was brought back to life via magic, and can remove his body parts at will and use his bones as projectiles. Being a zombie doesn't seem to affect much besides his voice acting, though.
  • Out of Focus: Episode 5 is the only time Sakura does much of anything.
  • The Reveal:
    • Yukari is a Zombie, demonstrated by his foot-removing technique in episode 2.
    • As of episode 3, Cheetos is apparently a succubus.
  • Shrinking Violet: Najika. She's shy, socially-awkward and prefers cats to people.
  • Together in Death: Najika, Yukari and Cheetos in the end. They even reunite with Daisuke and Kureno.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Najika becomes trapped in the past at some point. Not only she never finds a way to return to her own time, but Yukari and Chitose grow up without her. Thankfully she does end up reuniting with them....in death.
