Web Animation: Dick Figures

Red: Well, looks like everything's back to normal. (Red farts several times)
Blue: Why am I friends with you?
Red: 'Cause I'm aweso-

Normal day with Red and Blue.
Dick Figures is an animated web series created by Ed Skudder & Zack Keller (previously employed by Pixar, Jim Henson Company, Microsoft, and McDonald's advertising) about two best best friends named Red & Blue. It debuted on YouTube on November 18, 2010 and is currently produced by Mondo Media (Happy Tree Friends) and animated by Six Point Harness (first season of Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!). To date, it is the one of the most watched animated series on YouTube ever.

It’s more awesome than a supernova wrapped in bacon. From the mundane to the magical, the world of the series combines off-the-wall action, absurd comedy, filmic references, mythical creatures, adorable animals, an eclectic soundtrack, lots of explosions, and a cast of colorful characters living out their lives in complete acceptance of the insanity surrounding them. Yet at the adrenaline-powered-blood-pumping heart of it all, the show is just pure fun.

The Movie is currently in progress. Thanks to the generous donations of viewers and the help of Kickstarter, the movie achieved it's base goal of $250,000 on July 17th, 2012. At it's current rate, the movie will be approximately 72 minutes long.

The basic plot of the movie is the origins of Red as an alien, as shown in the episode "First Day Of Cool". Several secrets will be revealed and the adventure will be taken to levels unheard of.

This web series provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Purple.
  • Aerith and Bob: Chad, Jason (Trollzor) and Stacy are the only characters with normal names.
  • Asian Speekee Engrish: The raccoon talks this way.
  • Camp Straight: Lord Tourettes. He's extremely frilly and loves flowers and soft fuzzy things, but also tends to act even randier then Red towards women.
  • The Casanova: Red- in the most hilariously offensive way possible. His "charms" don't always work though, specifically when he's too drunk to form coherent advances.
  • Comedic Sociopath: Yes.
  • Flanderization: Red, if you can believe it. In the first season, he comes across as a Jerkass who likes getting drunk, hitting on women and has an attention span somewhere between uneducated and Cloud Cuckoolander. Fast forward to season 3 and Red has become a near-Ax Crazy psycho, snorting drugs on a regular basis, bangs more chicks than someone with his personality should even be able to wink at, has ADHD and an alcohol intake that should see him dead on more than one occasion, and somehow has supernatural kung-fu abilities and chi powers (though this could be explained by the movie implying that he's an alien, yet another flanderizing step).
  • Gag Boobs: All skinny girls have big bouncy boobs. The one fat girl, Purple, has small saggy boobs.
    • Mama's boobs are huuuuuge. Enough said.
  • Hard Drinking Party Girl: Stacy.
  • One Steve Limit: Stacy probably got her name because there's already a character named Purple.
  • Rapid-Fire Comedy: One of the defining tropes.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red and Blue, of course. Red is a crazy, chaos-creating, fun guy who's kind of a jerk. Blue is an uptight, irritable, usually serious guy who makes frequent facepalms due to Red's shenanigans.
    • Likewise, Stacy is the red to Pink's blue.
  • Rule Of Cool
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Well, Cultured-Man and Frat-Boy, anyway (Blue and Red, respectively).
  • Straight Man: Blue.

Episodes of this series provide examples of:

  • A Date with Rosie Palms: Trollzor sure likes Olivia Wilde.jpg.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Earl Grey.
  • All Just a Dream: In "OMG", Blue goes through several of these, complete with that one sound effect from Inception.
  • Angst Nuke: Blue/Bloser invokes a purely self-destructive variant on Bangers after Mash is killed.
  • Auto Tune: Red sings this way when he swallows a bee in the first episode, "A Bee or Something". Pops up again in "Bath Rhymes", and again in "Losing Streakers."
    • Hell, the bee itself talks like this.
  • Bad Date: Blue has one in "Trouble Date," because Red shows up with HIS date and ruins Blue's.
  • Bavarian Fire Drill: We're Cops!
  • Big Eater: Red decides to go back in time solely because he wants eat an entire dinosaur.
  • Brainless Beauty: Actually subverted with Stacy. In "Modern Flame War 3", it's revealed she works as an internet technician.
    • Even more than that, "Robot Frog" reveals that she used to be completely straight-laced, going to med school while simultaneously holding down three jobs, in fact. Her desire to do something crazy for once spontaneously turned her into the party girl we all know her as.
  • Brick Joke: In "Losing Streakers", Red forces Blue to go to Sal Sagev to win their rent money. After collecting their ridiculous amount of winnings, Red screams "VIVA LAS VEGAS!" and drives to the actual Las Vegas.
  • Broken Aesop:
Red: "You see, kids? Miracles DO happen, if you believe in yourself! Merry Christmas, everyone!"
Blue: "What? It's the middle of Sum*cuttooutro*"
    • Almost the entire point of "Pussy Magnet"
  • Brown Note: Kitty Amazing is so adorable he melts the hearts of all who look at him... literally. It's not clear why Red is immune, though.
    • Possibly from all the alcohol he drinks. Am I right, fellas?
    • Clearly it's from the fact he has no heart.
  • Bullet Time: Used in "Modern Flame War 3"
  • Can-Crushing Cranium: Red takes a page from Bender's book and does this with an entire beer keg, just before smashing Broseph's head with it.
  • Chainsaw Good: In "Zombies and Shotguns".
  • Check Please: Blue does this in "Trouble Date".
  • Continuity Nod: Kitty Amazing's petrified body is found behind the fridge in "Sex Marks the Spot".
    • Pink remarks in "Role Playas" that D&D night was worse then their first date, that being "Trouble Date"
    • In "Pleasure Cruise", the villain who tries to sink the H.M.S. Tragedy is Earl Grey's last surving butler.
      • Turns out Earl Grey never died. He comes back in "The Fart Knight Rises" to attack the Olympics.
    • In "Losing Streakers", Red accidentally swallows another bee and starts taking in Auto Tune again.
  • Cosmetic Award: Parodied in "Modern Flame War 3".
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Red is a Kung-Fu winner.
    • He's also an alien.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After Trollzor was humiliated in "Y U So Meme?", he teams up with Red and Blue to save the internet in "Modern Flame War 3".
  • Dull Surprise: Blue.
"Oh my goood, you lost everythiiing, woooow..."
"Oh man I know, Fang Angels is soooo goood..."
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Red in "We're Cops!"
Red: Who's going to pull over a cop car? Nobody!
Blue: Wow. You actually have a pretty good point there.
    • Granted, this wouldn't pan out in reality, but in the Dick Figures world, it seems to work out quite well.
  • Dumb Muscle: Earl Gray's sons, Bangers and Mash.
  • Drink Order: Pina Coladas pop up quite a bit.
  • Emotion Bomb: Blue/Bloser's "Emo Ray", which produces overwhelming angst in whatever it hits, so long as whatever it hits is actually capable of feelings. Apparently, it can also cause someone who's already feeling angst to explode.
  • Enhance Button: Red gets Blue to enhance a large black pixel into a perfect image of Trollzor's location in "Y U So Meme?"
  • Erotic Eating: Red and Stacy attempt this in "Trouble Date".
  • Everyone Went To School Together: "First Day of Cool"
  • Fail O'Suckyname: The Bloser.
  • Fartillery: One of Red's many weapons of choice. Used in, among others, "Sweary Christmas", "Losing Streakers", and "The Fart Knight Rises".
  • Feigning Intelligence: Blue in "Trouble Date", though it's more like Feigning Worldliness. He tries to invoke Everything Sounds Sexier in French and seemingly fails miserably- but Pink falls for it anyway. Happens again in "Kung Fu Winners" with some Gratuitous Chinese.
  • Freaky Friday Flip: "Brain Switch"
  • Funbag Airbag: Blue lands his face in Pink's chest in "Flame War", probably on purpose.
  • Freeze Frame Bonus: Throughout "Modern Flame War 3" achievement notifications pop up in the lower right corner at significant points in the episode.
    • At the end of "Sweary Christmas", pausing the video right after Red's craps in the fireplace shows the force of the explosion ripped off Lord Tourettes' face.
    • In "Fang Angels", there are frames of Pink with nude breasts at around 1:06.
  • Gainax Ending: "Taco Tuesday"
Red: Pizza Pizza mo mizza banana fana fo CANNIBALISM.
  • Gasshole: Red, at the end of "A Bee or Something", in "Attack of the Pwns" and again in the beginning of "Losing Streakers".
    • And near the beginning of "Taco Tuesday".
  • Genie in a Bottle: The genie of the teapot in "Butt Genie". What kind of genie he was tended to vary from wish to wish.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Red's second language in "The Red Devil". Granted, it's hardly Spanish at all but at least the natives understand it.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Butt Genie is voiced by Eric Bauza, who voiced Stimpy in The Ren & Stimpy Show remake, Adult Party Cartoon.
    • Mash in "The Fart Knight Rises" is played by Tom "TomSka" Ridgewell of ASDF Movie fame.
  • High Pressure Blood / Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: Red slices his finger (or hand, since fingers don't seem to exist) with a pizza cutter in "Taco Tuesday". He immediately starts spraying huge amounts of blood everywhere, and continues to do so throughout what is basically the entire rest of the episode.
  • Hollywood Tourette's: The aptly-named Lord Tourettes suffers from this.
  • Hurricane of Puns: The battle banter between Red/Batman and Earl Gray in "The Fart Knight Rises". Blue/Bloser briefly joins in, much to his own confusion.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: In Modern Flame War 3 Red shoots the trigger of a shot gun he threw at a Mook for a head shot.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Earl Gray fights with cups of tea and a diamond-encrusted monocle.
    • In "Zombies and Shotguns", Red(unintentionally) kills a zombie with a bag of chips.
  • Informed Attractiveness: According to "Modern Flame War 3" Stacy apparently has "the perfect boobs."
  • Insistent Terminology: A point of contention near the end of "Butt Genie", where Red and the Genie have a disagreement about what word describes the number of wishes they had accumulated. The Genie says that they had a "fuckton", while Red believes they only had a "shitload".
  • Jerkass Gods: A light example in "Zeusbag"
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Red wins the fight in "Kung Fu Winner" using this.
  • Kill It with Fire: Blue takes out a swarm of zombies by shooting a flammable bottle of perfume, engulfing the zombies in a ball of flame. Except that the sprinkler system then goes off, dousing the zombies and leaving them perfectly fine.
  • The Lad-ette: Stacy.
  • Leet Lingo: Trollzor:
Everyone's leveling without me! I'm not l-3-3-t enough!
  • Meaningful Echo: Episode 1 and Episode 35.
Blue: Why am I friends with you?
    Red: Caaaause I'm awesome.
Young Blue: No matter what happens, I promise; I will always be your friend!
Young Red: I know! Cause. I'm. Awesome!
  • Mind Screw: Episode 6. It starts out with an Inception parody, which is amazingly the easiest part to follow.
  • Mushroom Samba: Blue after he drops expired acid in "Freshman 15".
  • Must Have Caffeine: Earl Gray is useless without his tea.
  • Nice Hat: Lord Tourettes' cone hat. It's also a Hat of Power; losing it makes him incapable of cursing, as seen in "Lord Tourettes", where it turns a Mall Santa into a rather Bad Santa.
  • Nigh Invulnerable: A bag of chips in "Zombies & Shotguns." Makes about as much sense in context.
  • Painting the Medium: In "Freshman 15", Red has a number above his head that reads how many freshman girls he's had sex with. The fifteenth girl asks him about the number before he has sex with her.
  • Phlebotinum Killed The Dinosaurs: Red exterminated them with ray guns before the regularly-scheduled meteor had a chance to.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Pink and Blue, respectively.
  • Pixellation: In "Fang Angels" you can see Pink's breasts blurred out for a millisecond, even though you could see uncensored breasts in the previous episode. This is either because Pink had actual areola, while the earlier girl had just dots, or it's just a joke.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Red scrounges up a Smart Ball while he and Blue fight Earl Gray to give one of these:
Blue/Bloser: Hey Earl Gray, what happens to criminals?
    Red/Batman: They go to prism!
    • Red to the owner of the Golden Lotus Dragon.
Red: I don't know what you're talkin' 'bout, crazy man, but I'm going to beat you up 'till you bleed soy sauce!
    • Red to a T-Rex:
Red: Hey, where I come from, you're extinct!
    • There is a rather huge example of Lampshade Hanging in the episode "Traffic Jams":
Red just before fighting the huge fire-breathing turtle with a sword: Catch phrase.
  • Precision F-Strike: Red and Blue swear in a regular basis, but...
  • Prequel: "First Day of Cool" tells how Red and Blue met, along with several other characters.
    • "Robot Frog" appears like a normal episode... then several occurrences point to this occurring just hours before "A Bee or Something". Blue is talking to his girlfriend Stacy, who became a party slut after she breaks up with him. Raccoon is fighting a robot frog which causes him to be evicted by Mr. Dingleberry. Red swallows another bee but it's actually the first bee. The final scene was the first scene in "A Bee or Something".
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In a sense. Lord Tourettes gets these whenever his Hollywood Tourette's kicks in, though he's no more dangerous than usual, just briefly more dangerous-looking.
  • Running Gag: Every episode ends with a cut to the outro sequence in the middle of a sentence.
    • Additionally, Red can usually be spied levitating off the ground at least once an episode.
    • A continual phrase that shows up every so often is "Make That Ass Clap/Crap!".
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Red throughout "Flame War." He even says the Announcer Chatter!
  • Serious Business : "Attack of the Pwns", in which Blue and Red get into an epic space battle over the last frozen burrito in the fridge.
  • Shout Out: The episode "OMG" has one to AKIRA while also being based on Inception.
  • Sword Cane: Earl Gray's cane is revealed to be this in "The Fart Knight Rises".
  • Take That: "Fang Angels" is a not-too-subtle one at Twilight. "Modern Flame War 3" is an even less one to Modern Warfare.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: Red dips into this from time to time, the crowning example being "Modern Flame War 3", where he gets over a fence topped with barbed wire by eating the barbed wire.
Red: Whoo! All this manliness is making me thirsty. Better drink my own piss. *whips out canteen*
    • "Real Dudes Bros Night Man" is all about this.
  • The Movie: That's right. They're making one.
  • They Killed Kenny:
    • The gray-colored Broseph, who dies horribly in every episode he appears in.
    • Mr. Dingleberry has died several times throughout the series.
  • Title Drop: Done cleverly in "Pussy Magnet". Just before the cutoff, Lord Tourrettes gives the advice, "All you really need is a big DICK-". In the Stinger, Blue replies "Figures."
    • Red title drops at the end of "Robot Frog" with a hint of Breaking the Fourth Wall.
    • The opening narration of "Role Playas" tells of the two protagonists opposing the "evil King Richard Figures the Long-Shaft."
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth : Kitty Amazing. Poor, poor Kitty Amazing.
  • Torture Cellar: Comes out of nowhere in "Ballad of Lord Tourette's".
  • [Trope Name]: "Catch Phrase."
  • Weaponized Exhaust: Red's bean burrito gas serves as propulsions when jet packs aren't doing the job in "Attack of the Pwns".
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: They never do explain who Diablo Rojo really was in "The Red Devil". Though, knowing the series, it could very well have been Red all along.
  • World Of Pun:
Blue: "I just got my car washed by sorority girls! It's the best!"
Red: "I just got my dick washed by sorority girls! It's the breast."
    • And again, immediately afterwards:
Blue: "So I don't want you to get any of your shit all over my car. Especially your shit."
  • Your Head Asplode: Red can do this to ninjas.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: in "Zombies & Shotguns"
