Plankton will become an Enemy Mine
In the beginning of the movie, SpongeBob and his friends will assume Plankton is behind the stealing of the secret formula. When they confront him, he reveals that it wasn't him, and he makes an offer with the group to help find out who really took the formula (Burger-Beard).- This poster

The Movie will be an Actionized Sequel
Seeing as SpongeBob and the gang will have superhero alter-egos, one can expect there to be at least one fight scene. The previous film only had one.AJR's "I'm Ready" will be on the soundtrack
- Well, it's based on a sample from the show. What better way for Nick to acknowledge it?
- With the same reasoning, Pogo's "SquareBob SpongeMix" should be on it as well.
- Considering that Nickelodeon has already used "I'm Ready" in some of their promos, this seems pretty likely.
Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy will appear in the movie
SpongeBob and the gang become superheroes at the climax of the film, so why not have the show's regular superheroes join in the fight against evil? It should be relatively easy to find real-life actors to play Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy (it'll be better than Dribby Bros. Studios and...their actors).- Sadly jossed
- You could loosely interpret Mermaid Man as appearing in the credits. There's a message dedicating the entire film to his deceased voice actor in there.
- A deleted scene shows that Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy were intended to make a cameo in an earlier version of the "Teamwork" song.
The deleted scene from the first movie will be revamped and used in this film
This particular scene involved SpongeBob and Patrick - after their escape from Shell City - encountering Sandy Cheeks and her local squirrels as they fight against agents. Then shown are human look-alikes of SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward. This is the clip.- We do see a real-life version of Sandy in one of the trailers for "Sponge Out of Water", so it seems the idea hasn't been entirely scrapped. But could the human look-alikes reappear as well?
Spandy will become canon.

Patrick's Ice Cream powers will end up having hidden potential.
Specifically, Hydrokinesis. This will make Patrick the most powerful member because of who they're up against.- Almost confirmed. Patrick nearly manages to take out Burger Beard's sails with his powers, but he counters the attack.
The lingering effects of the book cause the characters to slowly but surely Flanderize after Season 3.
They do say the first movie is the definite finale and therefore takes place after this one. My theory is that Sponge Out Of Water takes place before Season 4. Assuming the book made the Bikini Bottomites descend into savagery because Burgerbeard wrote it in, it would appear that some corrupting influence endured until SpongeBob's transformation at the climax of the first movie.
