In "Jailbreak", both Peridot and Jasper tried to use a Gem Disruptor against the Crystal Gems. Garnet destroyed the one she took from Jasper, but Steven was only shown taking the other one from Peridot. There is no evidence that suggests he (or the other gems) destroyed that one as well. So it’s not unlikely that they still have it, though of course that begs the question why they didn’t bring it out already to use against Jasper or the corrupted gems.

Specifically, the Diamonds were created in an alternate dimension by a being known as “The Mother” and sent to the show’s dimension. Unlike the scrapped backstory though, their given purpose wasn’t to protect organic life from threats, but rather, to destroy it and create a Gem empire (a [[Pun Gempire]], if you will) that would rule the universe in it’s place. The Mother, upon learning of the Diamonds [[HeelFaceTurn Heel-Face Turn]], will be enraged and create an army with the sole purpose of [[KillandReplace destroying all of Gemkind and taking their place]], winding up as the show’s true [[BigBad Big Bad]] (just as her initial conception).

This format could allow the Crewniverse to explore any and all the plot ideas they [[WhatCouldHaveBeen wanted to include but never got the chance to]], such as an Amethyst origin story (with a motherly Rose), Rose deciding to have Steven, Rhodinite's backstory with an appearance from Morganite (who apparently has a canon design), Mystery Girl returning, why the Zircons were "in trouble", Spinel and the Diamonds having "problems to settle out", what happens when a gem is left in the dark too long, Lapis backstory and details about her powers, and Lars discovering his Lion powers. Steven's story being concluded by the end of the Future series would mean that the "Steven Perspective" can be retired, which means episodes centering around these things wouldn't even require a framing device to show Steven learning these things as we do.

This would also most likely put the Diamonds themselves at the forefront of this story by maybe having them struggle to hold on to the ideals that Steven has taught them about while dealing with a threat from their past.
