If the show runs long enough, it will become Madam President
Well, it worked for Yes, Minister. There's a minor Running Gag that Bess' approval ratings are higher than President Dalton's, so even though she says early on she never wanted the job and doesn't have any political ambitions, it's still an interesting possibility for Season 7 or so.note
  • At the end of Season 2 she was asked by Dalton to become his Vice President. The Vice Presidency is worth, in the words of one of our earliest VPs, "worth a warm bucket of spit". They have very few official duties, as evidenced by the fact that the VP in the show appears a grand total of once, during the succession crisis in the beginning of Season 2, and it's literally just to puke. As Dalton's VP they can do several episodes on campaigning for re-election, but she becomes VP in season 3, she will be bored to tears at the job, and they'd maybe get 3 episodes out of her trying to do stuff from her old job without any official power (with maybe one devoted to her breaking a tie in the senate, but that's so rare the writers wouldn't bother to try it twice). However, VP's are only one heartbeat away from the Presidency, and Dalton is pretty old, then, BOOM! Hello Madam President. The rest of the series would focus on the Presidential duties, and her running for re-election.

Alison's nickname
"Noodle", unexplained Affectionate Nickname. Short for Noodle Incident, perhaps?
