Most or at least some instances of
God Is Evil are actually fakes
- The idea behind this is that in many cases where the supposed all powerful deity appears as a jerk, he seems somewhat neutered. This is especially true if the Deity’s name is Yahweh or is described as creating the universe. If they were anywhere near as powerful as they are said to be, why would they bother sending armies of angels after the hero turns against them even if Authority Equals Asskicking. If they were as powerful as they said they are, there is no way a mere mortal could ever become a threat to them, and even if that were possible, why not cut the knot and show off why they are called god and scramble the brains of the person who defies them or failing that, Drop a meteor on the sap’s head before they could possibly become a threat. The answer is that they can't because they aren't really god.
- Old Testament Yahweh could've also have done tons of things far differently under that logic.
An omnipotent, malicious deity is just as preposterous as an omnipotent, benevolent deity.
If
God Is Evil, why
does the world not turn to an absolute Hell? If
God Is Good, why does it not turn to Heaven?
- The common complaint in the Epicurean Trilemma to justify God is Evil is "Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent." Sure, it's still not an absolutely defined Crapsack World, but a lot of unfair disporoportionate suffering still exists in the world.
- Apathy is worse than torment. If Yahweh is evil, then he doing a good job
- Or you might just say omnipotent entities with Character Alignment are preposterous in general. "Can god create a rock so heavy he cannot lift it", anyone?
- Who knows the world wasn't already turned into a living hell?
- I can speculate that both Deism, Christian Existentialism (e.g. Kierkegaard) and the Cosmic Horror Story genre as H.P. Lovecraft envisioned it may actually believe this is the case. God/s created the world, but they don't adhere to any specific Character Alignment and do not really care about the moral, ethical and political beliefs of us puny humans. It is up for us humans to decide our own beliefs. And yes, this Cosmic Horror view was used by Jefferson to justify his "All men are created equal" clause.
