And yet despite this, when Mirror confronts Yuuki's father in the Zero Saga, Yuuki's father claims that he meant for Mirror to be a wholly unsympathetic character, to the point of being glad that he's going to die in a few months. While it's possible that he planned for Mirror to have a sympathetic backstory at one point and simply forgot, it's also possible that Mirror's backstory is based on Kid!Yamato's impression of Mirror, and the Memory Collector simply extrapolated what the "real" colonel Mirror would be like from there when creating him.
