Daniel turns Margarita down in the end because he is secretly in love with Carmen
- Makes sense. Margarita mainly cares about clothes, celebrity gossip, and boys. Daniel claimed that they were too young and that he wanted to be just friends because of that. BUT there may be another reason. Daniel likely wants somebody who is more his intellectual equal. Someone who does well in school and cares about the future. Valeria is taken. Maria Joaquina is not always the nicest person, has Cirilo smitten with her, and may have a thing for Jorge. But Carmen is single. And does well in school. And is kind and noble. Hinted at in the sequel, Carrusel De Las Americas, having Daniel's and Carmen's counterparts (Luis and Dulce) gazing into each other's eyes during the theme song.
