LEGOLAND is a PC game released in 2000, following the RollerCoaster Tycoon gameplay style, but being (obviously) based off LEGOLAND parks.

The game has a very simple premise - you go through ten different levels, each with their own difficulty curves, trying to please Mr. Bimble, the park inspector. He inspects your park every ten minutes to see if you have enough of everything, as well as enough variety. At first, you get ten chances to do so, but the number continually dwindles down in the later levels. You get more rides and greenery as the game progresses.

This game is notable for being one of the only LEGO games that is almost entirely rendered in 2D. There are a few aspects that are 3D models, but for the most part the game is two-dimensional. It's not quite as well known as the other 90's LEGO games, but it's still fondly remembered by many who grew up on it.

Not to be confused with LEGO Island.

Tropes in LEGOLAND:

  • All Deserts Have Cacti: The Western theme uses cacti for scenery.
  • Artificial Stupidity: This game has the same stupid AI that RollerCoaster Tycoon has — the visitors will randomly travel down paths, with the only thing affecting their direction being if they want to go home. This can be used to your advantage though; see Video Game Cruelty Potential below.
  • The Cameo: Several from other themes:
    • Biker Bob from LEGO Creator is in the intro video.
    • In the cutscene where Professor Voltage obtains the crystal power station, a Rock Raider named Docs teaches the professor what energy crystals can do.
    • Johnny Thunder and the islanders appear in the cutscene where several jungle-style objects are unlocked.
    • Basil the Bat Lord (from the Fright Knights theme, but better known for his appearance in LEGO Racers) appears in the cutscene where the castle theme is unlocked.
  • Company Cameo: One of the buildable shops is a LEGO Media Shop modeled after the LEGO Media logo.
  • Fictional Currency: It's never given a name, but looks like gold judging from the interface.
  • Rake Take: In the intro to the game, Bob Longtree ends up stepping on a rake even after Jonathan Ablebody warns him to look out.
Jonathan: Hey Bob, watch out for that rake!
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential: It's possible to erase paths so there is no way out. Due to Artificial Stupidity, it will take the visitors forever to finally give up. However, it is possible to trap them forever on the Boating and Driving School attractions.
    • It's also possible to enjoy messing with visitors by making the path from one place to another as insanely convoluted as possible.
  • Wide-Open Sandbox: Free play mode, which allows you to add all the attractions you want with no worries about upsetting your guests, your electricity, or money.
  • You Require More Vespene Gas

You still need...A wider range of different scenery.
