* ChangingClothesIsAFreeAction and CosplayOtakuGirl: Mio Kouduki: Like [[LightNovel/{{Oreimo}} Kirino]] in ''VideoGame/DengekiBunkoFightingClimax'', she dons several costumes of characters from other fighting games and animes, and use their moves, such as [[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters Kyo Kusanagi]], [[VideoGame/StreetFighterAlpha Sakura Kasugano]], [[VideoGame/TheLastBlade Akari Ichijo]], among others. She goes back to wearing her normal clothes after finishing the move.

* MoeStare: Some characters sport this, a cute smile with an open mouth and wide-open eyes in their portraits, and even some of their sprites, with Mayu, Mio, Awake Nayuki, Sayuri, Misuzu and Kano as the most notables.

* CuteBruiser: Kaori Misaka and Doppel Nanase: The former fights with her unmatched boxing skills, and the latter specializes in grapple moves and hard punches. Rumi Nanase also counts, specially when fighting bare-handed.

* FamilyUnfriendlyViolence: EFZ is normally a pretty light hearted and colorful fighting game, but then, we have Ikumi, whose fighting style involves using her victim's blood, and her own blood to power up her attacks, and is the only character able to shed blood. Her command grab, for example, involves stabbing her opponent with her fingers, and creating a small explosion to shed more blood to absorb, [[AccidentalNightmareFuel and this can be pretty unnerving for some of the younger gamers]] (Yeah, the blood looks more like ketchup or red paint, and [[HighPressureBlood it's so cartoonish and over the top that sometimes it's fun]], but still...)

* ShortRangeLongRangeWeapon: Makoto wields a gun as her primary weapon, but only one of her specials (and one super) actually uses the gun as a long-range attack. [[FridgeLogic It doesn't make much sense why her firing the gun straight forward only counts as a close-range attack]].

** A curious case could be Misuzu Vs. Kanna; fans of ''VisualNovel/{{AIR}}'' surely know what's wrong with this matchup.

* FireIceLightning: Kano Kirishima's tiered spells.
** Her spells are a ShoutOut to the MMORPG ''VideoGame/RagnarokOnline''--The elemental bolts, Soul Strike, Frost Driver, Jupiter Thunder, Storm Gust, etc.

* NoPlotNoProblem: 23 cute girls from diverse visual novels [[note]]Technically they're 22, if you count Nayuki Minase (Asleep and awake) as one[[/note]] are fighting amongst themselves for no particular reason.

* PuppetFighter: When playing as Minagi, you actually play as two characters, as you can control Minagi directly, and Michiru via special moves, however, only Minagi can take damage.

** More recently, a new version was released, named ''Revival'', which enables the game to be run on modern operative systems, without taking the risk of modifying the archives of the game; it also adds a netcode to play online.

* BlackMagicianGirl: Kano Kirishima is able to cast tiered versions of [[FireIceLightning fire, ice and lightning]] spells to fight. Her powers are also a reference to her wishing for magic in ''VisualNovel/{{AIR}}'', although ut's very likely that becoming a magician, and a strong fighter as a bonus, was not what Kano had in mind.

* PowerGivesYouWings: Ayu Tsukimiya has a winged backpack behind her, whose wings grow to attack her opponent, and to perform air dashes. Ayu herself fully transforms into an angel for her Final Memory.

Such differences make this a downplayed example.

* LuckBasedMission: Unknown can catch her opponent inside a barrel; from the instant this move connects, how much damage this move deals is decided randomly, which means, at level 3 it may deal as much damage as in Level 1, Level 2, the complete Level 3, or just deal no damage at all.
* MagicalGirl: Sayuri Kurata's character is a reference to the genre.

* ManaMeter: Kano Kirishima, whose MP bar must be charged in order to cast her tiered elemental spells.
* MegatonPunch: Kaori's Final Memory, called "Silent Pose", is actually a counter: If her opponent attacks her when posing, the game cuts to a picture of Kaori punching her opponent up into the sky; then the screen fades in white, implying that the opponent vanished in ATwinkleInTheSky.

* NeckLift:
** Both Ikumi and Doppel does this to her opponents for their command grabs, the latter specially, after grabbing her opponent, either punches her right onto the floor, or chokeslams her.
** Kano's Final Memory, called "Memory Of Shiraho": She grabs her opponent by her neck and lifts her, then strangles her with enough strength to [[NeckSnap snap her neck]], taking down a good chunk of her life bar.
* NerfArm: Rumi Nanase's wooden sword. Interestingly enough, her sword deals more damage than Mai's, despite the fact that Mai is an IaijutsuPractitioner, and uses a real sword.

* PaperMaster:
** Minagi Tohno fights with rice tickets, whether by throwing them, or striking directly.
** Mio Kouduki also counts, as she fights with her notebook.
* PinballProjectile: The bullets that Makoto fires ricochet on the "walls" and "ceiling" of the stage, easily catching an opponent off guard.
* PowerFloats:
** Unknown, the SubBoss, is able to float in the air, but it depletes her reinforce gauge.
** Kanna also hovers around, her feet never touch the ground.
* PowerGivesYouWings:
** Ayu Tsukimiya has a winged backpack behind her, whose wings grow to attack her opponent, and to perform air dashes. Ayu herself fully transforms into an angel for her Final Memory.

She get temporary super armor for her Final Memory (Doppel also counts, but automatically getting super armor in the last round till she's down, or defeats her opponent).
** Misaki also counts for some of her normal fierce, and her fierce dashing attack.
* SuperMode: Ikumi Amasawa's "Violent Run - Genocide Mode"; Rumi Nanase's "Enduring Maiden's Aesthetic" Final Memory.
* ThisIsADrill: Akane Satomura's neutral fierce.

** Rumi Nanase can throw her wooden sword so fast, that it sets on fire for a brief instant. After that she goes into her bare-handed style till she picks it up again.

* TimeStandsStill:
** Mizuka Nagamori's Final Memory, "Eternal Poem". Misuzu's, too.
** Akiko Minase can slow time down for a few second, for one of her super moves.
* TokenAdult: Among a cast of pre-teen and teen girls, Nayuki's mom Akiko is the only adult character.
