** This trope subtly comes into play during [[spoiler:the ultimate finish boss battles described below in the BonusBoss entry - said bosses have three life bars that each consist of 3000 HP, for a total of 9000 (''nine thousand'') HP.]]

* BonusBoss: [[spoiler:Dark Broly]] can be seen as this since he is fought in the post-game chapters of the story. If DLC is taken into consideration as well, then the list expands to include:
** The final missions of the GT storyline. The final mission of the first part has you pursuing and fighting Super 17 across several locales, while the final mission of the second part pits you and [=SS4=] Gogeta against Great Ape Baby, Super 17, and Omega Shenron in a grudge match.
** Three notable parallel quests offered by the Resurrection F DLC. [[spoiler:The first tasks you with defeating Towa and Mira, the former of which has enhanced super armor, in 5 minutes or less. The second has you fighting off Golden Frieza and his underlings in a recreation of [[TheWarSequence the invasion of Earth from Resurrection F]]. The last is a challenge from Goku and Vegeta, who will progress through ''each and every'' Super Saiyan form available to them, maxing out at Super Saiyan Blue (called SSGSS in this game). If you meet the ultimate finish requirements for these missions, this trope is taken further: you will be treated to one extra phase in which your primary opponents (Towa and Mira/Golden Frieza/SSGSS Goku and SSGSS Vegeta) gain three life bars, perpetual super armor that can only be temporarily nullified after lots of punishment, extreme damage boosts to all their attacks, and hyper-aggressive AI behavior.]]

[[VideoGame/DragonballXenoverse2 A sequel]] was released on October 25, 2016.

** Future Trunks hasn't been programmed to realize that his ultimate only works straight up, and will attempt to use it when standing next to you. Somewhat downplayed, as if you get too close during the charge you'll still be hurt and knocked upwards, leaving you prone to the actual blast…a mistake which your ally in quests may be particularly prone to per the above.

** One of Gotenks' movesets has Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist and Tien's Volleyball Fist, referring to the 2009 special ''Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return'', where he used both moves against the villain Aka.

* GenderNeutralWriting: Done very inconsistently - despite the capacity to be female in three of five races, other characters frequently refer to the player character as male. ''Sometimes'' they do use "they" or "them", and if you are playing with a female character, the Supreme Kai of Time will sometimes refer to them as she.

* CombinedEnergyAttack: The Spirit Bomb, natch. Also, [[spoiler:in the secret ending: as the Time Patroller fires a Kamehameha at Demigra, the spirits of Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Krillin lend some energy to them to give them the power needed to defeat the Demon God once and for all.]]

* GrandTheftMe: Ginyu's Body Change Ultimate, natch. [[spoiler:Which he uses in Story Mode to take control of ''your'' character for a while]].

''Dragon Ball Xenoverse'' is a ''Manga/DragonBall'' game developed by Dimps for the UsefulNotes/PlayStation4, UsefulNotes/XboxONE, UsefulNotes/PlayStation3, UsefulNotes/Xbox360, and PC.

* SimpleStaff: The Power Pole accessory, which can only be obtained via wishing to Shenron. It becomes a TelescopingStaff if you use the Power Pole or Power Pole Combo skills.

** Also, count this as yet another example of Dimps doing this to Hercule Satan, albeit downplayed from the ''[[VideoGame/DragonBallZBudokai Budokai]]'' series. While his strikes are weak individually and over half his skill moves are conventionally useless, his punches can't be [[ImmuneToFlinching tan]][[NoSell ked]][[note]]with the exception of quest-specific AIs; see TheComputerIsACheatingBastard below[[/note]] any more than any other character's can. He has a couple of high volume combos with knockdown or knockback finishes based on his "attack" on Cell in the series, his Rolling Hercule Punch skill is an effective confuse-and-stun move and his Dynamite Kick can be charged up into a furious combo especially if set up right. Though he's clearly the weakest fighter in the game technically, in the hands of the right player he can become a LethalJokeCharacter. [[spoiler:Then there's Dark Mr. Satan in the Time Breaker-altered Cell arc. Without the Future Warrior's intervention, ''[[UpToEleven HE KILLS GOKU]]''.]]

* MightyGlacier: [[spoiler:[[NoSell Broly doesn't care about your attacks]]. [[UpToEleven Broly doesn't care about your]] ''[[UpToEleven ultimates]]''. Broly doesn't care about ''anything'' you throw at him.]]

* [[StealthSequel Stealth Prequel]]: ''Possibly.'' The end of the game [[spoiler:establishes Trunks' decision to stay on as part of the Time Patrol, meanwhile Towa takes the core of the surprisingly-alive Mira and departs, swearing revenge on those who stood in their way (IE Trunks and company). This would make sense, as it would set up the Time Patrol vs. Time Breakers plot that ''Dragon Ball Online'' had during its run, as well as establishing just what set it off to begin with. To make a long story short, either we're seeing a sequel, that will replace/retell ''DBO''[='=]s story, or this was the prequel to that plot.]]
** [[spoiler:Further evidence supporting this is the settings the games take place in: ''Xenoverse'' is set in Age 850, and ''Online'', Age 1000. That's a 150 year difference between the end of ''XV'' and the beginning of ''DBO''.]]
** [[spoiler:Even further. In ''DBO'' Bardock reappears as a Time Breaker, brainwashed thanks to some device on his face resembling Mira's armor, with the story being that he survived Frieza's destruction of Planet Vegeta via some form of time travel. In the first post-finale chapter here, this is exactly what happens to Bardock thanks to Demigra's wormhole, and in the end he is left alone after Broly's defeat, theoretically setting the stage for Towa and Mira being able to take him later. This one is seemingly confirmed because early teasers for ''Xenoverse 2'' show Bardock in his Time Breaker/"Masked Saiyan" costume.]]
** Mira's exclusive Ultimate added in [=DLC 3=], the Serious Bomb, is described as "yet-incomplete". [[spoiler:In ''Online'', Mira destroys New Namek with the Spirit Bomb. The similarity in the two attacks' names[[note]]''Honki Dama'' versus ''Genki Dama''[[/note]] suggests that his Spirit Bomb is the perfected version of the Serious Bomb. Additionally, the destruction of New Namek happens in Age 853 -- a mere three years after the events of ''Xenoverse''.]]

* SillinessSwitch: Male voice #8 in English, which is Nappa from the Abridged series.

* TimelineAlteringMacGuffin: The {{Big Bad}}s recruit past villains and give them upgrades.
* TimeMachine: Trunks' upgraded Time Machine.

* TimePolice: Time Patrol Trunks and you the player.
* TimeTravel: Of course.

* VendorTrash: Hercule Badges, which come in several rarity tiers of increasing value, and exist only to be sold for Zeni.

* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Well, any color of hair for that matter in the case with your custom character.

** [[spoiler:The Supreme Kai of Time referred to Demigra as a Majin, as does Goku in one of Demigra's DummiedOut vs. battle quotes. In truth, Demigra is not a Majin like Majin Buu: rather, Majin is also the pronunciation of the kanji for "Demon God". This lead to many players mistakenly believing Demigra to be a Majin as opposed to an honest-to-"goodness" demon god.]]

** In the {{DLC}}, Goku thanks the player for helping by saying "Thanks for helping out Pan", but Sean Schemmel's inflection is "Thanks for helping out, Pan", as if he was talking to her and not you. This was apparently due to bad communication from the AR director.

* DummiedOut: [[spoiler:Demigra]] was originally intended to be playable, as evidenced by special battle quotes for both his normal and final form that are still present in the game's code. This was also originally the case for Towa and Mira, until both characters were PromotedToPlayable in [=DLC 2=]. And then there's Imperfect Cell, who has a fully-functional character model but for some reason was limited to just one cutscene in the game's story mode.

* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:Demigra, the mastmind behind the events of the game, who has two forms.]]

* YouKeepUsingThatWord: Trunks constantly refers to Baby's victims as being "hypnotized", when a more apt description would be "brainwashed". While the results are arguably similar, they are very different things when it comes to execution.

* FiveRaces: There are five races, who can be slotted roughly into these categories (although it's not always an exact match.)
** Humans are obviously Mundane.
** Saiyans are Stouts: they have the most warlike culture out of all of the races (and that's saying a lot!) They're also known for their temper: their transformations literally run off of it (or, at least, [[RetCon they did]]).
** Namekians (or at least, the playable ones) are yet another warrior race, but in terms of personality and culture they correspond roughly to Fairies. They're more ascetic and emotionally restrained than other races and created the Dragon Balls (or again, [[RetCon they did]]).
** Frieza's race is the High Men. Members of Frieza's race note that the defining trait of of their race is not their cruelty, but their pride. At the peak of their power the Galactic Frieza Army ruled a majority of Universe 7.
** Majins are the Cute race: they look adorable regardless of gender and have the personality to match. However, they are NOT weak. [[PersonOfMassDestruction Far from it, actually.]]

* TimeMachine: Trunk's upgraded Time Machine.

* {{Troll}}: Cell, if you mentor under him, can casually say some really callous remarks. Such as if you're wearing Future Trunk's CC Clothes he comments that he killed Trunks in his timeline, and if you are an Earthling, he comments that if you were around during the Cell Saga, maybe he wouldn't have absorbed so many people.

** [[spoiler:Demigra]] possesses and powers up Piccolo and forces him to kill Goten and Trunks. Afterwards, Super Buu destroys the Earth.

* TheBadGuyWins: Because of Towa's and Mira's meddling, many iconic scenes and battles are changed to play out as if the villain won:

* KiAttacks: A staple to ''Manga/DragonBall'' fighting games.

* CompositeCharacter: [[spoiler:Demon God Demigra. He initially appears to be a stylized version of [[VideoGame/MortalKombatMythologiesSubZero Shinnok]], with the same color scheme and GodOfEvil base. His second form, however, makes him look like [[Characters/DragonBallZVillains Yakon]] with [[Franchise/StreetFighter Blanka]]'s hair and a [[Characters/DragonBallGTVillains Shadow Dragon]] two-tone. Upon closer examination, his [[FauxAffablyEvil person]][[AGodAmI ality]] is actually closer to that of [[Manga/OnePiece Enel]] while his "evil pale magician/dark world beast king" motif seems to combine the Creator/AkiraToriyama-drawn [[VideoGame/DragonQuestVIII Dhoulmagus and Rhapthorne]].]]

** To the point where you briefly wonder if GameFreak had a hand in making this game. When the player plays through the game, they have to watch out for a few things: limited ''ki'', limited stamina, and if you're a Saiyan, limited time to stay transformed as a Super Saiyan. The quest and story A.I.? As the difficulty increases, they ''completely disregard the game rules'' for the sake of being "difficult". Saiyans stay transformed indefinitely, they dodge techniques or unleash Evade attacks like no tomorrow and ultimates are spammed to the point where they may as well all be Android 17 and 18 with their unlimited ki and stamina. It gets frustrating very quickly.

* RoleReprisal: After being [[TheOtherDarrin Darrin'd]] in previous video games and ''Anime/DragonBallKai'', Creator/DameonClarke and Meredith [=McCoy=] reprise their respective roles as Cell and Android 18.
