Video Game: Battle Fantasia

A fighting game released by Aksys and Arc System Works, the creators of Guilty Gear. It was the first fighting game to be released by the company on the Xbox 360 and PS3. It is set in a cookie-cutter Medieval Fantasy world, which serves as a contrast to Guilty Gear's and BlazBlue's heavy Science Fiction setting. The art style is very colorful and heavily fantastical, and the game's themes are much Lighter and Softer than its predecessor.

Gameplay is also much slower than the Guilty Gear or BlazBlue series, resembling Street Fighter more than anything.

The game saw a disc release on the 360, which is notoriously difficult to track down, and a digital release on the Playstation Network.

  • Dueling Games: It had the great misfortune to come out alongside Street Fighter IV.
    • This is only true for the PSN version of the game which was released on December 22, 2009, The game was released in arcades on April 26, 2007. On an interesting note, Yoshiro Ono, producer of the Street Fighter 4 series commented in an interview that Capcom wasn't interested in releasing a new SF game if it wasn't 3D, but he wasn't sure if it was possible to make a game with 3d graphics and keep the 2d "feeling" until they watched Battle Fantasia — a game that in his words inspired the SF 4 series

  • Executive Meddling: Inverted, in this case, the decisions could be considered to have made the game better, YMMV for the 1st one since the game was planned to be a traditional 2D sprite based fighting game but was decided that it had to use 3D graphics instead, since ArcSystemWorks didn't have a 3D game by the time, the 2nd one was the addition of the Heat Up system, afraid that the game was too different from the ArcSystemWorks formula, they asked for a mode that could allow more Combos options, leading to the Heat Up system which adds more depth and also more variety in gameplay since it's unique for every character
  • Moveset Clone: Urs and Marco, Olivia and Odile/Dokurod.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Averted by Donvalve, who is a giant-sized Dwarf with a valve protruding from his torso.
  • Panty Shot: The result of Marco using his grab on Coyori.
  • Pirate: Freed
    • It should be noted that Freed is not actually a Pirate, though he looks like one for being a (Flying) Ship Captain and having a Hook instead of a hand
  • Rebellious Princess: Olivia
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: Watson
  • RPG Elements: In presentation, rather than gameplay. Health is called "HP" and displayed numerically, and the announcer calls "Level up!" as your special bar fills.
    • Even more prevalent in the official site, where each character has listed gear, items being carried and level. All for aesthetic purpose, of course. The characters themselves also tend to lampshade this.
  • Screwed by the Network: The American PS3 release was delayed over a year and forced to go download-only because SCEA does not allow retail discs without English voice acting.
  • SNK Boss: Deathbringer's second form, which can only be damaged in Heat Up mode.
  • Speech Impediment: Marco pronounces his "R"s like "W"s.
    • Justified, he's a child.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: Face's opinion on Olivia fighting to save her country.
  • Steam Punk: Present in some areas, specially evident in Donvalve.
  • Zettai Ryouiki: Type A Coyori, Type B/C depending of the color Olivia & Odile
