Tropers: Ryan Bloom
I meant to do that—It was to lure you into a false sense of security.
Ryan Bloom

A more extreme version of Murphy's Law is the Ryan Bloom. Everything that can go wrong, will, often for either no concernable reason or from simply not planning things out fully. Generally, the Ryan Bloom can be seen as a mix of The Chew Toy and Lapse of Intelligence.

It's not that the Ryan Bloom is Too Dumb to Live or an Idiot Hero. He can be pretty smart (and possibly Good With Numbers); that intelligence just doesn't always extend outside of schoolwork. Often, though, life presents the opportunity for the Ryan Bloom to redeem them—Hey Look!

This trope has been active since The Nineties. It was named for the troper whose life embodies this trope regularly.

Note that this is not actually a trope, but a Contributor Page in disguise.

Anime & Manga
  • In a rare example of a Ryan Bloom occurring outside of Ryan Bloom's life, Lelouch Lamperouge could be considered a Ryan Bloom on many occasions, but his Geassing Euphemia at the end of the first season is practically a textbook example. Things get as bad as possible simply because he does something slightly stupid at a very, very bad time.
