Ode To Joy (An der Freude) is a poem by Friedrich Schiller. It describes humanity united in joy and friendship, in a rather overstated way.
The most well-known musical adaptation was written by
Ludwig van Beethoven, who used the poem as lyrics for the choral parts in his ninth symphony. The title
Ode To Joy generally refers to Beethoven's music, even if other adaptations are also available.
Ode To Joy is the official anthem of the European Union.
