If you really would like to know, you can come here to see all the games I remember having ever played, their completion status (if any), and what I'm currently playing. For more specifics, though...
Favorite series and favorite games in them:
- Super Mario Bros.. This series has been with me since my earliest years, when I didn't have a console of my own, and always wanted to go visit my cousin so I could play games with him.
- The Legend of Zelda. For a long time, I preferred Mario over it, but recently, I've come to believe Mario is beginning to stagnate, while Zelda continues to grow ever more beautifully.
- My first Zelda game, like many others my age, was Ocarina of Time. Unlike many others like me, though, I don't let Nostalgia Filter affect my judgment regarding it. Yes, it is an awesome game, yes, it was groundbreaking at it's time, and yes, it has aged excellently, especially when compared to other games from around the same time. However, what it does NOT is have anything special by today's standards.
- Since then, I have played 8 of the 16 canon games currently out (not counting remakes, rereleases and spin-offs).
- Metroid. How much I like this series is about on par with how much I like Zelda. I just don't get tired of reading about it, learning all I can.
- I first got in touch with Metroid through Super Smash Bros. on the N64. As with the other characters I didn't previously know, my interest in Samus and her series grew, but this one turned out to be special. The first game I played was Super Metroid, but since I sucked at it and the cartridge was defective and wouldn't save, that didn't work so well, and I left it at that. Fast-forward to 2006, when I got hooked with Metroid Prime. At first, I was skeptical about it, but it turned out I loved it. This then extended to the rest of the series, and now I am a big Metroid junkie.
- I can barely wait for the final version of AM2R
to come out.
- I also can barely wait for Metroid Dread to be made.
- Castlevania. This is actually limited to the Metroidvanias, though. I tried giving the Classicvanias several chances, but I still haven't played one that I really liked. I'm not done yet, though.
- My first contact with the series was Castlevania 64, but I really got into it with Aria of Sorrow on the Game Boy Advance. I still haven't had a chance to play Symphony of the Night, though, and am eagerly looking forward to.
- While many people disliked Castlevania Judgment from the get-go, I was pretty optimistic about it. I mean, it was gonna be like Super Smash Bros. for Castlevania! I think it was a good idea, but that it was very badly executed, and it could have been so much more had it been done right.
- Conversely, the one 3D Castlevania everyone seems to like, Lords of Shadow, I really, really despise. While I actually like how they reimagined most of the mythos, they discarded most of the series identity in favor of appealing to the fanbase of God of War, rendering it Castlevania In Name Only. It being a Continuity Reboot also doesn't help, but the prospect of it being an Alternate Continuity counters that a bit.
- I think Castlevania: Harmony of Despair might be one of the best things to ever happen to the series. It's pretty much everything Judgment tried to be and failed, minus the versus. I deeply wish to be able to play it with my friends, but I don't have a 360 or a PS3, and can't really afford either for just one game. Besides, I'd need my friends to get those too, and they can't afford it either. I wanted to play it so much, I went as far as sending an e-mail to Konami asking them to release it on Steam. Guess how well that worked out.
