* ActorAllusion: To Julia Child ("Really, just a recipe for delightful!"), and Creator/WalterCronkite a couple of seconds later ("[[CatchPhrase And that's the way it is!]]").
** Professor Neweyes uses a magical radio and helms a gigantic ship. In real life, Walter Cronkite was a devoted ham radio operator (callsign [=KB2GSD=]) and an avid sailor.
* TheDanza: Julia Child as Dr. Julia Bleeb.
* {{Defictionalization}}: Remember Rex's big "Roll Back the Rock" song sequence in the in-universe [[UsefulNotes/MacysThanksgivingDayParade Macy's Parade]]? One of the promotional stunts for this film was a balloon of Rex in the ''actual'' Macy's Parade. Unfortunately, his head got popped by a street lamp due to high winds (the rest of him remained intact), [[WeAreExperiencingTechnicalDifficulties forcing the NBC people to throw on test flight footage]]. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3DNo3NZoUk Video here]].
* DeletedScene: A scene in which Screweyes cages and chains the dinosaurs, explains how he lost his eye, and ''blasts Brain Drain down their throats with actual cannons'' was fully animated, but cut from the film. Bits and pieces of it can still be found, and some frames were used in a RecursiveAdaptation book.
* HeyItsThatVoice: John Goodman, Jay Leno, Walter Cronkite, Kenneth Mars, Julia Child, Martin Short, Larry King, and Yeardley Smith (aka [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Lisa Simpson]]) - plus, for British viewers, Felicity Kendal (in one of her very few film roles, live-action or animated). Cecilia's voice is pretty much exactly the same as Smith's Lisa Simpson. At least Leno doesn't sound like Leno. Incidentally, while Leno and King seemingly turn up in any movie that'll have them, this was Cronkite's only feature film.
* NoExportForYou: This has the (dis)honour of being the only movie in recent memory with Spielberg's name on the credits to go DirectToVideo in Britain.
* TheOtherMarty: John Malkovich was originally cast as Screweyes but left due to constant script rewrites (the film's ExecutiveMeddling also caused him to leave Hollywood and only do international productions for a few years).
* PlayingAgainstType: This was written by [[{{Film/Moonstruck}} John]] [[Film/JoeVersusTheVolcano Patrick]] [[{{Theatre/Doubt}} Shanley]], of all people.
